OK, not sure where this best fits, so put it here. CADLES "Georgia Land Surveying History And Law. Inside the cover is a really cool sketch from field notes. Anyone know the name of the pic. I figure it is the GA archives, but don't know where to look. Really want to print and frame for the new office.

I've never heard of a hinting party. Seems rather subdued to me.
In my marriage, my wife is the hinting party. I sometimes ask for more direct instruction, but am generally expected to make do with hints.

:rolleyes:Ain't that the truth.
I believe you are looking for William Few's 1784 Plat showing life on the Georgia frontier.
It looks like they chained the top line, and used a subtense bar to get across the river.
Where's Peachtree Street?
Which Peachtree street? I hear there are dozens of them.
You know. The one that follows the old tradin' path.
Seriously, though. Cool map. I'm guessing the 'unknown lands' are somewhere east of Helen. Maybe Toccoa or Homer area? Or, is that not the Chattahoochee?
Needless to say, I don't have the appropriate/illustrated attire for a hinting or survey party.
Although I still participate in both activities today those guys would accuse me of being nekid.

That is the one! Thank you!
And yes my phone thought I surely did not mean hunting.

Thanks for the chuckle, Jawja. Thought maybe it was spelled the same as it's pronounced somewhere.:):)

I knew I had seen that part showing the two gentleman pulling a chain, sure enough page 88 of Milton Denny "Surveying the land" Vol. 1 2006. A most excellent read.

I believe that plat is recorded in Franklin county Georgia. One county north of where I live
