Check out Shawn's review of the HP 50. It's a great calculator. Shawn please get a hold of me at [email protected] I'd like to share programming info for the 50, 35s, & 42s. Surveying and ballistics. Thanks for al of your great posts and articles!
I'm trying to find it
Which issue is it in? Thanks--
Henry
Jacob Wall of Simple Geospatial Solutions http://sgss.ca/about.html developed a 'surveyor friendly' (as he is an almost British Columbia cadastral surveyor) program for the HP50G.
He posted before Christmas.
Yes, I'm still trying to find time to get to the full program.
Cheers,
Derek
Thanks Derek. I'm a loyal SGS user. Jacob polished up a 4 point best fit curve that we were playing with and incorporated it into SGS. The logic behind SGS is really fluid with my work patterns and methods. Jacob is totally attuned to his client's thoughts, wishes, and concerns. His software really stands above all others I've used because of his receptiveness towards customization and user input. It is an awesome cogo package!!! I just looked at the SGS site and noticed he posted updates. I guess his hockey team must not be doing so well:-P

Ouch, LOL, yeah the term "rock bottom" has been passed around recently to describe the Vancouver Canucks. Haven't been programming much on the 50g lately as I've been back in study mode while also beginning to get my feet wet with programming for the Android platform. No rest for the wicked, or something like that...
Also, thanks fro the positive review of the software Jason and Derek, always appreciated.

COGO for android!!! Yes!!!!
Android would be awesome. I still for some foolish reason like a tactile button calculator. Any thoughts on the HP Prime platform?

I agree, touch-screen input leaves something to be desired, however I think if it's done right it could be good. Also when considering how much more one can do with Android it seems to become an obvious target.
The HP Prime I feel is a few firmware updates away from being a viable option. The Prime is exceptionally easy to program and the speed of the device is quite incredible, but it lacks some key memory management and user interface programming capabilities in its current state, at least for a full-blown survey calculations software package.

Bluetooth number pad?
I've been waiting for someone to convert the SMI V7 CVCE to an android app. On an Android it should be able to hold Data Collection, DOT, Robot and GPS in the same program.
I've been following that COGO since it was for Apple and still use the Dos version.
At some point, I run out of pockets to carry calculator/collector and phone and handheld GPS and GPS camera and fieldnotes.
A smartphone may be the solution to control it all by voice commands.

Something along those lines might not be a bad idea. Maybe something that would dock a smartphone, an optional accessory...
