Filled out the release and permission forms to have the 8th grader attend the Ropes Challenge course at LSU next month with a group. Afterward, they get a tour of the College of Engineering. He has a STEM course this year at school. They must be recruiting them young at LSU . I know that he is looking forward to the zip lines since he spent most of summer jumping off a rope swing into the river in town.
Can I go with him? I want to go! Can I? Please? I will clean up my room!
I serve on the board of directors for an Education Service Center that provides all sorts of resources to schools across the state. Part of this involves opportunities at the primary site where the main headquarters is located. That total tract includes roughly 200 acres, much of which has been converted into learning resources of one kind or another. They have two ropes courses. One is considered to be the Low Ropes Course and the other is the High Ropes Course. Both are very effective at teaching team building, trust and self-assurance types of skills. About three months ago I was onsite with our Center Director to watch about 20 blind kids from ages 9-15 experiencing the High Ropes Course. That was amazing.

Give your son an "attaboy" for (what used to be called "playing") his outdoor physical activity. 🙂

Swmbo who is a school mhp and counselor has done these few times. She sez the trust stations are always the hardest for her especially when she is blindfolded and asked to fall backwards off a platform into the arms of her group. On the other stations that intimidate her, she can be cautious and see her partners' abilities.
Not so when blindfolded.
That must have been an amazing thing that you witnessed.
