@gmpls

?ÿ

I'm going to be that guy with more books than I could even read...?ÿ It's hard to decide what to take and what I'll need.?ÿ But from what everyone says I probably won't have time to look up much anyway.?ÿ?ÿ

@joe-b-from-pa

I'm not 100% sure.?ÿ The two different companies I was with gave up on it.?ÿ?ÿ

Well, the first one, I was naive, hadn't really looked into it, and thought they'd taken care of it, and I guess we did some surveying without a COA.?ÿ Never stamped or finished, quit before it was done.?ÿ?ÿ

But it did look to me that the licensee had to be part owner of an entity to get a COA.?ÿ Maybe your company is owned by a NY LS, so it might not be an issue.?ÿ?ÿ

Good luck, hope it works out.?ÿ I hate NY, anyway. Well, just the stifling bureaucracy of it.?ÿ Take care

@jph

I'll look into it more.?ÿ But yeah, the company I work for has an LS owner and COA, so that may be why it's a different situation.?ÿ Thanks

@joe-b-from-pa

Then you should have no issues with it, and should be able to work under their COA.

I'm guessing that the intention is to prevent firms from just hiring an LS, just to get the COA, wanting it to be someone with stake in the company.?ÿ I don't agree with it, but I'm fine not doing work in NY.

Good luck on the exam

@joe-b Hi, Can I ask you to share your exam experience? How did it go? What kind of questions was there? I'm taking the NYS Specific in couple of days; any information will be much useful.

@ilya_k?ÿ

Hi

Unfortunately, I don't check this site enough.?ÿ I hope I can help, and that it isn't too late.?ÿ

The exam was not bad, but I always studied a lot for my exams.?ÿ I think their suggested bibliography is really the bulk of the information you need for the exam.?ÿ Be prepared to answer some simple COGO but a lot of the questions were based on the bibliography.?ÿ Focus on sections A and B.?ÿ Obviously, they give some suggestions for great books, and if you have those books, study them and bring some with you (I brought too many, but I didn't have to go back again.)

Suggested reading:

http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/pels/lsurvbibliography.htm

It looks like the guide to planning and zoning link in section B didn't work.?ÿ I think this is the correct document:

https://dos.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2022/07/guide_to_planning_and_zoning_laws2.pdf

I would suggest printing them and taking them, again it's a lot, but it's better than having to go back to take the exam again.

?ÿ

If any other links are broken, google them and you will likely find it.

?ÿ

Good luck, and if you didn't get it, keep trying!?ÿ You will get it, don't give up just study.?ÿ If you want any more help give contact me again

Sincerely,

Joe B

?ÿ

@joe-b?ÿ

Thank you, Joe

Indeed, I found a lot of the Statutes just googling them. ?ÿI wish they were electronically available on the test, but...

PS and FS test reference materials scored me at least 5 easy points with easy "CTRL+F" options. Scrolling through printed pages will take a lot of time. And knowing myself - I would try to double-check even an easy answer)

@ilya_k?ÿ

Yes, true the computer search on the NCEES exams made it easy to get the answer to a few questions right out of the reference material.?ÿ I think for the open book NYS Specific exam my strategy was to read the material, mark/flag the key elements, then you can easily go back to them later.?ÿ

Also, for the reference books, get comfortable with using the index at the back of the book, and the table of contents at the front of the book. I found some answers that way, and it's not that time-consuming.?ÿ The index is the biggest help when searching through a textbook.
