I already hold licenses in several states and am in the process of completing the paperwork to apply for the TX RPLS exam. What do I need to do to prepare? I realize this is a bigger undertaking than most state specific exams and have been told that someone (TSPS?) puts together a several day study course that is pretty indispensable.

Anyone have any advice they would like to share?

Have you actually surveyed in Texas before?
A great part of the state is metes and bounds and consists of headright surveys

Check out the State BOR website, it will be your best source of information apart from the various subject seminars held across the state.

see page 13

It would be best to contact the TBPLS, their contact information provided in the above material

When I came thru in 2001 Ted Madson did a 3 day course in Austin an 90% of us passed.

There are several items you can use for self-study as well. The link below is for the TBPLS website, which has several sample analytical questions as well as major court cases that you will need to study.

TSPS also has a few publications (follow the link listed below) that you should seriously consider investing in. You'll definitely need to know the Manual of Practice. I also highly suggest you read Decisions by Ken Gold (available on the TSPS website). Reading this book front to back will give you a good head start.

Publications - Texas Society of Professional Surveyors

Good luck!
