Tough for those with either strong or no principles. The first will suffer personally and the second will harm others.
There's similar dichotomy in Surveying, those that want to make a buck by any means necessary and those who want to provide a Professional Service even if it means having to take it on the chin. There are also those who "been there done that (omniscient)" and those whose mind is open enough to realize the broad realm of possibilities Geospatial knowledge can provide and are willing to learn new tricks. I consider the latter the "Leaders of the New Skool" (misspelling intentional), those are the guys/gals that will oversee and ensure the long term viability of this profession.

Even if it's no longer actually "Land Surveying."
Don't take that (or yourself) too seriously,

Thank You Don, I or any of my generation would be nowhere without guys like you to pass on the torch.
I hope I didn't call you old (I just turned 48):-)
Cheers
