I am gonna try to convince Angel & Wendell to drive a couple hours east of St Louis on Saturday September 28 for say a lunch or late lunch somewhere in or near Effingham IL.

Who knows of a decent place to meet in the area (I might bring Kristi and a couple kids along too)? If nobody knows a place, I will just Google it (JGI). 😉

Who is in?

Hmmm, I don't think I can make it...

HAHAHA just kiddin' -- We will definitely be there! 😀

I'll bring along some door prizes, like stickers, koozies, maybe even a custom-etched beer mug...

Oh CRAP!!!!! I was just there near Effingham last month. It might be easier for Wendell and Angel to swing into Mt. Vernon. It's right on the interstate out of StL. (about an hour's drive). To get to Effingham they would have to hit I-57 going north. And, I don't have to Google that. I was born in that area.
If any of you are American Legion members go to Edgewood, IL and visit their hall. It's awesome. Especially for a town of only about 300. If you get there before 5pm say HI to Marie, the bartender whom I flirted with big time. In fact I called her there Sat. Also say HI to my Uncles Jim and Greg who I stayed with last month. The bar manager is Emmitte (sp?) and PeeWee and Ronnie will be sitting on the far side of the bar when you walk in the door (I don't care what time of day, they'll be there). If they don't remember Eric (me) just say "Jim Palmer's long lost nephew. One of the 'good' Palmers". Although my given last name is not Palmer, I might as well be one. Mom was, so that makes me at least half-Palmer and I'm dam happy and proud to carry that moniker.

It just occurred to me as I was about to post, I'm wearing a Legion shirt from Effingham right now. On the sleeve is "D.A.V. Chapter 7, Effingham, IL". Jim gave it to me when I was there.

You'll never meet a better bunch of people!!! I promise. I miss them all already. Who am I kidding. I missed them right away when Jim dropped me off at the bus station.

Where in the Effingham are we?

Passed through there many times while traveling between Chicago and St. Louis back in the 70's. Had dealings with an attorney who grew up there. His name was Dick Wiggly. Always thought that name had to be an eyecatcher in the telephone book.

Well, I can tell you that is the intersection of I-70 and I-57. There are several HUGE truck stops there with lots of good eating. I wouldn't think you would want to take that route. You'd have to go north to Indy to catch I-70. You could meander your way south down towards I-64 around Louisville and catch I-64 and head due-west and meet in Mt. Vernon.
On the bus-ride I came from St. Louis and we stopped in Mt. Vernon and then to Evansville then somewhere in KY before heading off to Clarksville, TN (Ft. Campbell).

Wish I could be there!!!! I remember the area quite well.
E.

PS to Brad: in some of the photo albums Mom had made that my step-Dad gave me are several at 1265 E. Adams Drive right out there by Webb Elem School.

Reminds me of the former NASCAR driver Dick Trickle. Really?

"Grizz" [Chris] is in MO. I haven't heard from him in quite a while.

Yup there are two of us at my office. We are within walking distance of Busch Stadium and in a nice district to get good food and cold beer from the really BIG brewer. Would love to meet up, email me your schedule.

You've always got the Landing too as an option in STL:

I need to see how this plays out. I'm actually closer to St. Louis and I get to experience the Firefly occasionally anyway since we have a client in the area.

But I may still be up for it. However, given the popularity of the Firefly, Saturday lunch reservations may still be a good idea.

In other words I'm not committing yet, but I'm not saying no either.

Good idea, Marc. That means we need to have a relatively accurate head count.

You could always just book for an estimated number, like either a dozen (or 20), and modify it as it gets closer to the date. Kind of like an Association Chapter meeting. At least you get your name in and can add or delete as things develop.

FYI: I meant to say earlier it's a shorter drive time for me to Saint Louis. They're both about the same distance away. But it's all Interstate to Saint Louis, and a lot of two lanes to Effingham.

Sounds good!! 😀

Maybe you can give me some tips for around there as well...like where we could park for cheap and walk to stuff, etc... 🙂

Our schedule is pretty open right now, but once the Cardinals come to town I am going to try to get to as many games as I can while I am there. B-)
