why not? I see it on mom and pop checkout computers, it works.
not connected to the internet, not ever.
software works. it just works.
the hardware works.
the flea markets are full of old computers and all the bits and pieces.
once a week/day/month data gets burned to a CD or something, the tax man is happy.
why not?

I have two working XP machines, not connected to the network, that run my old DOS software and print to my old laser printers that are no longer supported by the manufacturers.
They work great!
I also have a Win XP machine working like a champ, even after the torture I've put it through. I think I even have a Vista machine that still works though I haven't fired it up in a long while.

The other day when I was looking for a computer with a printer port I found one with Win 98 and another with Win 2000 in my cache of old computers.
I have my old XP machine not 5' away. I boot it up once a month or so just to make sure it still works.
It performs two necessary functions:
My Topcon utilities that allow me to get "under the hood" of all my GR3s and GR5s are installed there (couldn't get it work right with Vista or Win7Pro) AND I have QB corporate records all the way back to 1998 residing there also. It is also backed up on two redundant external drives.
And if everything else crashes there is an old AutoCAD V14 still on there I think.
Long Live XP
Oh, I almost forgot...I can play Tetris on it if I like.
I have three XP fPro, two with Carlson and one with DOS Gogo and transfer v7 for the HP48s
Just received 2 new XP Pro to serve as backup before they phase them out after all of them are sold.
One new Win7Pro64 connected online for Email & downloads.
The 2new XPs & the Win7 cost less than $400 for all three.
That is an amazing fact considering that the first Apple IIc cost me $1,295.
Exactly, why not but I think Windows 7 is a better all round option. Going to hold off on windows 10.
I have a non network XP machine that runs Civil 3D, LDD 08 and ArcMap and runs them like a scalded dog.
It takes a good bit more oomph to run Win7 than it does XP.
I use XP every day. on every project.
XP is still the king of my shop. Getting too
old to care about the new stuff.
