you measured over 100 feet with a steel tape?

I needed to check a distance today and didn't think that getting out the robot was needed. I have a 50 foot chain, so my son and I got out the plumb bob's and checked it. It was supposed to be 117 feet and we got 116.97. It was about 85 so that might of had something to do with it...;-)

Can't remember the last time before that; how about you?

Fairly often. A lot of reference ties are over 100 feet. Also, a simple way to do quick recon for bars around city blocks. Once in a blue moon we will go 200 to 300 feet down a rural road looking for a bar. Much faster than setting up and taking down.

I can't remember the last time. At least twenty years, maybe more.

Did you use a chaining pin?

I have two old solid chaining pins left and a brand new hollow set I found somewhere online a few years ago.

It has been a long time since I pulled out a 100ft tape.

117ft would have been just right for my 200ft tape, which I have not used in a long time either.

Have a new nubian highway in the box.

I do use a pocket Lufkin 50ft chrome clad most every day I am in the field.

Mostly to measure from witness trees and points or other reference points to find previous work and to crosstape items that are behind trees or other that is blocking sight.

Cleaned inside and out with RemOil last week, it is amazing how much crud can accumulate.

No chaining pins; we used redheads.

0.0000065 x 116.97 x (85-68) = 0.013' Error
116.97 + 0.013 = 116.983'- 117.00' = 0.017'
117.00/0.017 = 1:6,882 Not too bad, fits 1960's standards of 1:5,000
