I was trying to tie in a 3/4" smooth rod on the side of a 4 foot tall hedgerow
after almost falling on my head, I made it up the steep slope and noticed I was standing next to an unusual fence corner post.
So since I was using my new Leica controller with built-in camera, I snapped the pic and thought to share here. I imagine it is some kind of farm machinery piece, being in the middle of far southern plains cotton country. But, anyone know for sure? Is it something or is it nothing?

It looks like a rudimentary tie rod, as might be found on early farm equipment, but that's as close a guess as I can make.
Can't tell the size very well, but my guess is a trailer hitch.
Looks like a trailer hitch to me too.
The i.d. is about 1". Seems too small to be a hitch. I think it is some kind of linkage, but not sure.
What is 1" i.d.? The inside of the "eye" or the inside of the upright protruding from the ground? Approximate total length of the part above the main stem?
It looks an awful lot like a goat stake. It's even got the wire still on it.
The inner diameter of the "hitch" is about an inch. Big circle, right in the middle of the picture. 🙂
That's pig wire. Must be a pig stake. Look for calls to a pig stake in the early chain of title.
On the one hand, an inch is plenty big enough for the hole in a drawbar-style hitch, the kind you drop a pin into. On the other hand, how is the other end of this one fastened to the tractor or whatever's pulling?
