Where may be easy for some you and impossible for most everyone else. But, what the heck is the reason for this scene?

Where Is It ?

The surroundings may add more information.

To me it looks like the ruins of a collapsed camp. Across the road it appears to be almost filled in basements.

Hint: It should jump out at tu, as the French would say.

So, You Don't Know Where You Were ?

Keds were my first impression, but I felt the L arrangement was too disorganized for a manufactured product.

Where Is It ?

A French jack-in-the-box.

(I never would have gotten it without the hint, though).

I grew up near Offutt AFB/SAC and wasn't far from their training area. When ever we'd see the black smoke; we'd run down there to watch them put it out.

Good times, as a kid...B-)

It looks like munitions magazines and other bunkers, the country looks like the Aleutians. Probably WWII vintage. Don't know why the "L" configurations. May have something to do with blast control and direction if something bad happens, like a bomb or artillery shell hits one.

...

Edit: Thanks for the hint. 52-53-04N, 173-10-42E Camp Earle, Attu The L's would then be AA gun emplacements, some of the other excavations would be for artillery mounts, barracks and other human dwellings, and storage bunkers. Built by US Army engineers and Seabees after a horrible battle to take Attu from the Japanese in 1943. Attu and Kiska were the only land battles in WWII fought on North American soil.

Ok thanks..
McGuire AFB NJ on the edge of the Pine Barrens...
to segue with Doug's post... use to go on family trips as a kid to see the Thunderbirds. Pack the car... Pack the picnic cooler and head down the highway..

I think until this happened but maybe not..I think I was exposed to more harmful elements other than plutonium as a kid in Jersey.

Attuboys all around

gshrock's pic and mine stand out rather vividly against a totally natural backdrop on Attu. The remoteness is what makes this all seem so otherworldly.

It's big business here, working on the cleanup of a lot of those old installations. A lot of Superfund sites with a lot of buried PCBs and a lot of groundwater contamination. The military was bad about burying stuff, or throwing it into the nearest water. "Out of sight, out of mind. I cycle out of here in a few months anyway."
But I shouldn't complain too loudly, it's worked out pretty well for me and taken me places I would have never been.

Doesn't mean I wont fight Pebble tooth and nail though... :pissed:

Found this this long weekend while fighting a sinus infection, fever and the effects of OTC cough syrup. Can anybody tell what it is? It's only about 150' end to end.

Cadillac Ranch, near Amarillo Texas.

I drove past it back in the early 80's when we helped move my parents out from upstate NY to Las Vegas.

Couldn't stop though......same thing for Meteor Crater.
