The yearly game of trying to spot license plates from every state in the union driving in NYC goes on.

Seen while doing a small lot survey this past weekend, parked not more than 2 miles from home.

2011 we were missing only HI and ND. This year, we've already got AK as well.

Last year I was crossing Broadway in the middle of Times Square when an SUV with two women in it pulled up to the crosswalk right next to me.....ALASKA! (This past month, AK was seen driving near Yankee Stadium during commute home.)

I'll be spending the last week of March in Westchester County (Purchase). If you don't have Maryland by then, I'll swing through the city for ya. 🙂

Well good luck. If anywhere is an ideal location for success, it is NYC.

Already got MD (that's easy, we've actually got about 35 states already), but you're welcome to stop by anyway......

The hard ones are usually the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho (come on in Jud...). We've even already seen Nevada (more than once).

Speaking of NV, the last time I saw Hawaii, I was pulling onto the Vegas Strip out of the airport back in 2010 and I pulled up right behind one......we called it "a half".

Angelo, you must hate ..

you must hate those ubiquitous license plate holders that today's car dealers put around the license plate that obscures the State and State Motto. They seem to be getting bigger each year turning into advertizements for car dealerships.

Not to mention that many state hired artists who design the license plates who use confusing, pastel-colored fonts that are not nearly as readable as regular text.

We made a lot of license-plate-game people happy in our road trip vacations over the past 5 years, as NH plates are not very common in CO, ID, WY, ND, SD, etc. We noticed several occasions where they would say," Hey LOOK! New Hampshire!"

I bet you can’t wait to see one of our Mass-Hole plates cut you off, without a blinker then slow down to a crawl; and that’s only in the parking lot.

That one is from Oahu, natch. Kauai plates start with a K, Maui County with an M and Hawaii County with and H.

We do actually see other plates here besides Hawaii plates, but not very often.

When you do see one from Maine or Texas, it makes you think they must really like their car to pay a grand plus for shipping.

Probably active duty military. I believe the government still picks up the tab for shipping one car; you can keep your home state registration and avoid Hawaiian taxes.

Why am I not surprised that since you're such an Obozo supporter you're also a fan of east coast liberal intellectual car mechanics 😉

From Wiki:

"Ray Magliozzi has a bachelor of science degree in humanities and science from MIT, while Tom has a bachelor of science degree in economics from MIT and an MBA and DBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management."

(Don't know what came over me there, it's like I was temporary "Tim Milt-notized")

Well, TimJim,
I've already confessed to reading "The New Yorker" from cover to cover.
It seems to render me somewhat less than popular in Idaho.

I don't care who you are but ..

Click & Clack (Car Talk - the tappet brother on NPR) are funny.

Seriously, although I am not a regular listener I have never detected any political messages on their show. Now Wait, Wait Don't tell me is also funny but is quite political.

Yeah, there are a lot of bases on Oahu, and the PMRF here on Kauai. And some people do spend the money to ship their car. When I did this 20 years ago, I think it was about $800. On the plus side, you have your own car in a week or so.

Yes, they are, and I was under the impression that obscuring ANY part of the plate was illegal.

I don't know if there's something in the air, but it seems like a lot of states are changing their plate design....new colors, new backgrounds, and of course, lots of different vanity plates. Ohio and Maryland are two that come to mind, and Florida has always been a source of wonderment. They must have twenty five different plate types.

All in all, it's getting harder to spot them when your traveling at 60 mph down the BQE.
