This is the part that chaps my hide every time...

"While the monolith has better craftsmanship than graffiti, this is still vandalism," said the Utah Department of Heritage & Arts. "It irreversibly altered the natural environment on public lands. While the monolith is interesting, we cannot condone vandalism of any type"

As is the UTTR and slick rock 4x4 area, any ranching operations, etc etc haven't permanently altered or made inhabitable or dangerous even....

Quiet down ya kill joys, it was interesting, unique,?ÿ and thoughtful and your flyboys joy riding around burning up Jet A to justify next years budget on fuel and expense costs found it accidentally, so shut yer yappers.....

Maybe its a Hayduke Banksy evolution, a new breed so to speak.....fun to see it unfold into the future

Astute observations.?ÿ Nearly no environmental acting as an attraction which is a good thing, gets people out to explore their public lands and reduces pressure on more popular sites.

I was surprised BLM refused to publish the location;?ÿ did they not know pundits would quickly locate it??ÿ Then they said access was dangerous ("people will get lost and need rescuing") but that is specious, easy access by Lockhart Road from the south (45 minutes) to within a few 1,000 feet of the situs traversable by Jeeps or SUVs tracking with GPS.?ÿ?ÿ

I worked for the BLM & USFS for years & was agast concerning how they limited innocent recreation access but?ÿ promoted commercial ranching, mining and other activities which are much more damaging,?ÿ but I finally read their implementing statutes and they are mandated to promote profitable use of public lands and if that means limiting access by the public than so be it.?ÿ National Parks & Monuments are different, no commercial use?ÿ (except by permit), but they still restrict access by the public to protect "sensitive areas".

I've spent 40 years of Jeeping in my Idaho childhood and as an adult witnessed many OK routes closed off because of "environmental damage" claims.?ÿ I think BLM & the USFS are so woefully underfunded now they cannot police the bad players therefore we honest travellers suffer.

BTW did you know pack animal's hooves on trails cause much more trail damage than 4WD rigs because of Jeeps have much lower foot pressure from fat tires spreading the load??ÿ Even foot traffic is more damaging in some terrain.?ÿ Contemplate that.

Totally agree.?ÿ

They are tasked with the financial welfare of the public through that process.

They also need to re evaluate and reissue the whole 1872 mining act and the 1934 Taylor grazing acts to update the costs and benefit the public more and private multinationals less.

Thats all.

No. I'm not a hippie or a communist.

@dave-drahn

That one has been removed also. A Reporter witnessed the Utah one being destroyed and it won't be showing up on eBay from the description.
