I think this is one of the best graphics I have come across showing the recession / unemployment from 2007 up till 2011( last update), BUT gives an idea of how various areas were affected and when.

3.6% (not seasonally adjusted) in a very rural midwestern County(always remember that only people actively searching for work are counted)

The farm (corn-soybean) economy is going great here, but it's always feast or famine when the local economy is driven by one industry. Most of us probably deal with localized economic pressures when we think of market share within 'driving range' of our biz.

Two things I'm certain of:

1)I my town of 200pop. nearly half of able bodied 20-65yr. olds are making ends meet with some sort of Gov't assistance.

2)This sure feels like 1980 all over again. The farm economy was great 'til the rest of economy recovered and then it went off a cliff and it didn't really recover for 15yrs. Here's to praying I'm wrong.

Is that on the way up, or the way down?

Cleveland County, Oklahoma previously reported here as 4.8%. Washington County, Oregon 6.4% in September, down about a percent from same time last year. Maybe, before long, I'll be changing my SurveyConnect psuedonym again.

It's time you got licensed in the center part of the country (North Dakota/3%). As a bonus you'll get to freeze your goolies off.

Head west from Bowling Green on Highway 68.

Drive for about 2 hours.

You go past Russelville (Logan County), ELkton (Todd County), and Hopkinsville (Christian County).
