Wow. Without this reminder, I honestly think I might have completely forgotten about the old board and their foolish grab for the dollar. Thank you Wendell and Angel for all you do.
The old POB board was good, and I honestly thought the change in format wouldn't hurt anything, but I was wrong. I think it was just to big of a change.
I was one of the 40 "Beta" testers and I don't think they listened to any of us. I almost never go there any more.

>They had 2 or 3 cheerleaders for the new format who would jump on and severely criticize anyone who wasn't pleased with the new format and features.
That’s what I found so annoyingly frustrating. Surveyors would comment on how various features could be tweaked to improve it and would be be-atch slapped down by cheerleads saying “it’s EXACTLY what you asked for”. I must have missed a lot of the early beta testing where surveyors clamored for a cold war era Bulgarian-made steam driven calliope attached to a telegraph key, but if that’s what was originally requested, a hearty “mission accomplished” to POB for delivering the goods.
[sarcasm]I hate to be the category police, but, shouldnt this thread be in the In Memorium section?[/sarcasm]
:-/
I was too. I agree, they didn't seem to want input from beta testers which is strange.
> Whats going on at the "other Board"? I haven't been there for about a year.
[sarcasm]They eliminated P & R and it was all downhill from there........[/sarcasm]
Frankly, since POB bought out Mark Deal, it has been an exponential curve to the elimination of practicing land surveyors. Wendle picked up the slack and is being true to Mark's original concept of a forum for LAND SURVEYORS. "Geomatics" means nothing at all on the ground where the called for monuments are found by old school skills. And these topics of land law which are key to boundary surveyors have no interest to 95% of POB advertisers. So POB could give a rat's arse about us.
Mark Deal and his message board
I knew Mark and have some insight on why he created the rpls.com message board in the first place.
I'm not even going to try and speak for him. But I can tell you (as would probably all his friends and associates) I know which message board he would frequent if he were still with us today. 😉
Agree with the above. RPLS was too slow, too convoluted.
IMO, They should have gone with a simple forum template, like many of the other forums on the web.
