Now if you want to get abused you must first be a "member" of the group.

Apparently there were too many complaints from people who were unable to shut off the POB Lounge as they could "P&R" in the past.

I think one of their most popular threads was the recent "Obama" one I started regarding the mosque.

I wish I knew where they were going, as I am pretty certain they don't know.

It does not look like they do.
I keep seeing certain people post "we are working on that" for just about everything that is brought to their attention, but very little being done.

I just went over there to see what's going on. There are a grand total of three (3) posts today, four if you count the one right after midnight. I didn't check the lounge, though. Maybe everybody's in there having serious discussions while we "banter" over here.

It wasn't closed.
They just closed the worm hole links to the PnR posts from the 'all activity' and 'recent posts' pages.
Similar to here, where you can't see non-survey and PnR until you log in.
But they went one little step farther, I think.

R.P.L.S. always was a P.I.A.F. (pointless internet argument forum).

The local newspaper allows comments; it's pretty much the same thing. Same old back and forth over and over again. Usually it starts out in the subject of the article but then it morphs into the usual arguments, liberal vs conservative stuff.

The billionaires must be laughing themselves silly at how stupid we are. We busily argue over meaningless stuff while they steal the country right out from under our noses.

I didn't understand why they called it the 'lounge' as though is was indeed a place to kickback and relax.

who in this world has every argued politics and religion to 'relax'

It should have been called the POB 'MINEFIELD' You plant a 'mine' either left or right leaning and the other side steps on in and 'EXPLODES'

P&R is worthless to argue over.

instead of the laid back logo with the smooth writing, I will admit kinda sets a peaceful mood, it should contain barb wire, tanks and apache helicopters. And of course mortars exploding all around. And the grim reapers shadow somewhere in the mix.

I still have not entered the "Lounge" over there in the last couple of days. I just checked in to the latest posts list and there have been a grand total of four (4) posts today. The "Lounge" might be a bee-hive of activity, but to tell you the truth, I don't care.

Why would anyone want to enter into a lounge or a P&R, and get into a heated, insulting argument and risk alienating a person to whom you may really need to ask advice of one day? Seems like a needlessly stupid thing to do, unless you already know it all.

Mr. Adams

Engaging people that you kind of know from a surveying message board in discussions about politics and religions is not inherently a bad thing. I'm sure we all talk about that stuff with co-workers, relatives, acquaintances all the time. On a faceless website where the people in the discussion are hundreds or thousands of miles apart, though, for some reason gives people the idea that they can be rude and dismissive of the other person's opinions. Besides the fact that this is all happening from the comfort of our well-stocked liquor-cabinet equipped homes.

Some of the people who post in the "lounge" are perfectly willing to be rude and dismissive when they're standing two feet away from you. Trust me, I've been there.

Rich

Thanks for the heads-up. I know you don't want to be one of those rude people, but I'm curious who got up in your face.

The site still has issues with being too slow and compartmentalized, but luckily that is offset by the scarcity of new posts, so it doesn't take too long to peruse the site.

😉

Binge is going wild in the lounge, like he is the new king of POB. He likes to beat on the Beer Leggers, we're just a bunch of whining crybabies to him. Not sure why he cares, or thinks we should care.

I would bet dollars to doughnuts that he spends time over here though, either lurking or he has chosen a pen name.

That Other Board Closed "The POB Lounge" - edit

Roadie:
I think that it requires a 'double hand shake' to enter the 'side show ' over there, I mean lounge
I never been there and never will.
I don't care for the ringmaster's posts.

edit:
with Loyal, John H, Scott P and a host of others , RPLS is very good place to check out surveying discussions.

Eventually, he'll get tired of talking to himself over there and make his way over here.

In looking back at how POB could have actually improved the old I-Boards format, simply giving a user option that allows new posts to rise to the top (or not if that is what you perfer) is the only "tweek" that needed to be made. The new board is a turd, as evident by the 3 or 4 posts a day they get ...

They simple installed a red velvet rope. 😉

I requested admission on Friday, I'm really in no hurry to attend.

Yeah, the other day he was making fun of beerleg for having threads about types of rebar and such so it sounds like he's been here.

It's not so much "up in your face." It's more like, oh, say, for example, trying to marginalize someone's observations by referring to that person as Chauncey.

I hate to say, "I told you so" but....

I posted many times on the old POB board and that all the new proposed features would ruin the board, but Kristi listened to advice from the web designers instead of the board users.
