That would be one awesome restoration project. Willy approves Willys jeep?ÿstation wagon!
I worked out of one a little bit in the early 70's, it was a Chevy V8 conversion. Rattle-Trap. Co-worker rented it to our boss. The memories are not fond ones
To own one would be cool!

Definitely bullet-proof...but don't get in a hurry.?ÿ In 1969 I and two buddies drove a 1949 Willys Utility Wagon (station wagon as shown above but with 4WD) from Oklahoma to Gunnison, CO.?ÿ Although it was equipped with a straight six, it was the smaller of the two offered by Willys. I'm thinking it had all of about 65 HP and gears so low it could idle up a wall.
?ÿWe endured a top speed of about 40-45 mph and whining gears that would make one deaf.?ÿ I think the gas tank only held 10 or 12 gallons which wasn't enough in at least two spots in SE CO.?ÿ I remember a couple of high passes (this was summer) where we were visited by the infamous "vapor lock demon" in both the fuel pump and carb.?ÿ But once in high off-road country a Jeep is in its environment.
I'd love to own a good specimen, but I don't think it would make a good survey chariot. ??ÿ

My Dad had a 1947 Willy's 2 seater with built in "benches/seats" in the bed area which was about 4 feet long. My parents owned a nursing home situated on 5 acres. I drove that thing, starting in 1960 when I was 10, all over the place which included a "mini-swamp". By age 11 I knew how to get stuck, unstuck, and not stuck in muck real quick. All under the threat of death and the infernal blabbering?ÿ "you got the G-damn thing stuck by yourself. You get it unstuck by yourself". Ahh the good ol days. That's how I learned how a come-along and logs and shovels worked.?ÿ ??ÿ

Spur gears will do that.?ÿ In my salad days I owned several early-1950s Dodge pickups (1 driver and 3 or 4 parts trucks).?ÿ I pulled a New Process spur-gear 4-speed out of a 3/4-ton and stuck it in my 1/2-ton driver.?ÿ The first time I drove it I thought someone had turned on an air raid siren.?ÿ But I quickly came to love that sound, and having to double-clutch going both up *and* down the gears was worth it.
