Has anyone else read this?
I'm reading it now. Almost half-way through in a few hours.
I plan on re-reading it several times.
The version I have is a collection of several commentators based on the 1910 translation which is now widely accepted.
The first 70 or so pages is mostly about the history about who this guy was and who he advised.

Just curious.

One of the most influential books I've ever read. Every bit as applicable today as in ancient China.

#10 is particularly applicable with what has been recently going on with negotiating a treaty dealing with Iran's nuclear program IMHO.

E,

Another book that goes with the Art of War is, The Book Of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi William Scott Wilson (Translator). This book also needs to be read several times.

Ok Floyd. Is it philosophical?
That's more what I'm into.
Sun Tzu's title as "art" has always thrown me.
But I have seen a couple documentaries and heard he quoted so many times, I figured it was worth a read.
I'm hooked. Same I was with Lao Tzu's "Tao Te Ching".
Plus I figure it would be a good one to help re-build my library that I lost years ago.
(all hardback if I can)

As a moderator, I'm skirting a thin line on what I really want to say.
Should I do that, I should also condemn my own self to my penalties just as Ts'ao Ts'ao condemned himself to death after his horse got loose and walked off into a corn field.

Kind of funny that after all these years I'm becoming literary. Someone the other day (not here) said something about "let loose the dogs of war". To whit I quickly corrected "Cry Havoc. Let slip the dogs of war" [Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, Act 3 Scene 1].
I love good prose these days. Perhaps Miss. Martin from 7th grade would be proud now - after she gave me an "F" on my report card that year. (circa 1971)

E,

"Is it philosophical?" No it is not. Where the Art of War talks on the large scale. The book of Five Rings is about the way of the samurai warrior and how the warrior deals on the battlefield. For example Kendo (art of Japanese sword fighting) used to train samurai, has four sicknesses surprise, fear, doubt, and hesitation. The Five Rings among other things talks about how to use the four sicknesses on the battlefield.

More like the Bushido then? I'm down with that. Maybe I should get a book on that.
I know all about Kendo and have done a little of it.

Yes more like Bushido. I took up Kendo last October for exercise for my body and mind. Since October I have lost fourteen pounds.
