I don't have a "green book" nor do I really need one for my business. But I live in the residential portion of the 100 year old neighborhood on Main Street in our county seat. The city just rebuilt the street in our neighborhood, including new street lights.

They are way too bright. They hurt our eyes and we have to look down at the ground. Not safe or pleasant.

It seems that the city is not holding themselves to the same standards they hold commercial developers with parking lot lighting requirements, etc. So I am going to do some shopping at amazon dot com for a cheap light meter that will give readings in the units that are called for in whatever standards.

What are the standards?

Do you have any contacts with a local engineering firm that does electrical work? That might be a good place to start.

Good luck. My town recently did the same thing, but the lights are a happy medium, as least from driving through at night. I live a few miles outside of town.

I don't know about any standards but I'd bet a minimum standard would be they do NOT blink off and on every couple minutes all night long like the two closest lights to me do all the time. It gets annoying.

Those standards wouldnt be in the Green Book.

Try this resource: DarkSkySociety

They have been collecting codes and recommendations around the country.

Someone here may have a recent copy of the "Architectural Graphic Standards".

There may be something in there about parking/street lighting.

Aside from "Never bring a knife to a gunfight", I don't believe there really are any standards; and, anyway, why the sudden interest in street fighting?

What?

Oh.

Nevermind.:-|

ha, good one. I like it.

Actually when we got home tonight from watching Casper (1995) at the old (92 years) Artcraft movie theater tonight, the city graciously left two of the light poles turned off. It is much nicer tonight.

Maybe someone at the lighting controls is lurking here.

If so, thank you.

Good God is that place still going?!!!
Lord only knows how Sat. afternoon shows we all went to there back in the day.
Has it changed much since 70-72? Surely they would have given it a facelift a few times over the decades.

The local historical group has it running better than ever with a lot of volunteers these past ten years. They don't run current films, but older ones instead. It is more than just going to the movie now. They make it an entertaining event. My kids are in the teen volunteer group.

A lot of good clean family fun on a regular basis, year round.

Northwood Owls eat Webb Spiders.

I think I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang there.
I can't think of any others I saw there but there were many.

I have very fond memories of that place. My baby brother was born there.
Had my first girl friend there while in Jr. High.
Drove my first mini-bike and did some racing there - around that big church at then of East End Drive.
Met all the Indy car drivers I would ever want to meet while my folks were next door at Gordon Johncock's house. He was never around much but his wife dragged me around like her little buddy. Boy didn't that make me famous.

I would like visit there some time. It's only 44 years since I've been there.
Sounds like the square down town is still good.
Do they still do lawn mower races around the square?

Sometimes super early, or late at night, me and step-dad could not sleep and would go play tennis in the middle of night. That was back when they had lighted courts and it was an honor system to cut the lights on and off when done.
Doubt we'd find that anywhere in world anymore.
Too bad.

I don't know about the Owls. I thought Webb school was the only elem school. Maybe the town was bigger than thought it was. Of course then again, we did move there downtown Indy so it dam sure was a small town by my recent standards.
