I definitely want a few old transits, to teach verniers, and Stadia for my kids.

We (Gaston College) has about 7 of those that will be sold after the start of the new year. What would be a good price? We are trying to raise money for some new equipment.
I'd love to have it for a display piece.
It's a long drive from my office though. I do have a job somewhat close (38 miles) after the first of the year.
Edit:
I sent an email asking about it. They are closed until January 4, 2013
It looks like a Dietzgen transit with the box lying on its side, rather they upright. Could be a K & E?
Very good transit in it's day!
Keith
It's a Dietzgen for sure. Looks like the legs are olive drab maybe some WW2 surplus.
I bet that as soon as Northern Mississippi gets the internet, someone will be by to pick it up.
Nate,
After the first of the year give me a shout. I've got a few old pieces that I would 'loan' to Big Help et.al. for their continuing education.

Look out, now!
Dadgum!! I took surveying at Mississippi State in 1969 and I bet that is some of the gear we used back then. I bet Rolphie Burt will be at the head of the line to get that stuff. 😀
Dan, my story goes like this:
My brother took the 1923 Adolph Leitz transit. It is with him in Ohio. He asked me for it, and I gave it to him.
The legs had burnt in the fire. (Dad's office burned about 5 yrs ago) I could not refuse him. I have been thinking about it, and I think I want to buy several of them, for each of my kids. I want them to take them with them, when they leave home. They will find occasional use for them all their lives. Laying out buildings, or minor surveying jobs, or such like. I want to connect them to surveying.
As I look at them on ebay, maybe I can get them for 1-400 each. When I get some extra cash, it is on my list. I want them to be able to do stuff, when they leave.
Merry Christmas to all!
Nate
Well thad, go to ebay, and type go to advanced, and search "Surveyor Transit" check the box about completed listings. This will go back about 3 months, showing what the sold for recently. this should give you an idea of how to price them. I will add, they are dreadfully cheap, for a good instrument.
