Pants about 90% of the time in the field. I will wear shorts if I know I will be on asphalt all day.

If I have a day in the office, I generally wear shorts and tennis shoes. I am solo and almost never have anyone come ot the office. If I have to go to the register;s office, I wear jeans and tennis shoes and a company shirt.

I generally run into potential clients when i am out and about, so i want ot look somewhat professional.

In the field, pants. Always. Even when it's 100°+. There are too many stickers in the weeds, and too many occasions to kneel down on hard ground or pavement, to make shorts practical for me.

Depends on the job. Most contractors can't allow us to run around in shorts. If just doing a Survey Shorts. Problem is knowing the daily schedule. It seems there is always a contractor calling 1st thing changing the daily schedule, for his lack of planning ( I mean emergency).

Pants 100%. Plus I insist anybody working for me do the same. Summer weight pants are fine, but shorts are strictly verboten in my book.

Shorts about 95% of the time... even in the winter. I'm known as that crazy guy that surveys in shorts, even in the winter (and yes I realize I typed that twice). If I need to wear something warm, I'll wear some black fleece tights under my shorts. I'm a big guy (round) and I simply don't move very well in pants, no matter what the weight of the cloth.

I'd rather look comfortable in shorts than look disheveled in pants and sweating and all bound up at 50°.

Long britches year round.

I have seen a helper or two that insisted upon shorts and it lasted a day or two at most.

One helper came back the next day with his legs shaven because of the many stick tights, aka beggar lice, that had attached themselves.

This area is not favorable for shorts to mix with land surveying. Too many places you have to do major brushing to get from the road to the R/W.

😉

I'm with you Joe. Shorts in the summer, almost every day. As soon as it gets above 70, I'm in shorts. I could care less about prickers and tickers. I'd rather bleed all day then sweat my nuts off 🙂

Always pants, you never know. Example:
The boss’s kid shows up to work in basically 1980’s tennis togs/deck shoes and says he can’t give me the backsight because he gets poison ivy real bad. Although that was true, I put him back in the truck and took him to daddy to explain. Oh, and he didn’t know how to run the gun either so there was no switching jobs that day.
Daddy was really honked.
And pants look a bit more professional, around here anyhow.

Pants & boots always. In the last couple of years I even started wearing a thin light colored long sleeve if I know that I will be out in direct sunlight for most of the day.

I spend the extra $$ and get my work clothes from ex Officio. Super lightweight long sleeves and pants. But the legs zip off so I can be in either shorts or pants. I have one pair of jeans that I think I wore 4 times last year.

Years ago, when I worked at a large company, we finally made it a rule if employees showed up in shorts they would be fired. I can't imagine working in shorts, but I am not on the beach.

I wear lightweight tactical pants:
Lightweight Tactical Pants

They are surprisingly tough and durable. I have one hole in the outer knee of one pair of the 4 I have and it hasn't grown because of the ripstop fabric.

The khaki doesn't clean well. Blue or green seems to stay much cleaner looking.

I also wear long sleeved blue station T-shirts. My subordinate employee goes to Goodwill and finds long sleeve button down shirts in light colors for cheap and wears those.

I did wear jeans, t-shirts or shorts for years. But since getting my license I wear khaki pants and a nice shirt. Figured if I wanted to be treated like a professional, I should dress like one. People do treat me better when they fine me on their property. So much so that when/if I have employees again, they will be dressed the same. The best part is the lighter khakis are cooler and more comfortable than jeans, who knew.

I hate blue jeans, too stiff.

I used to wear khaki office pants but they don't take the punishment well. The tactical pants allow the same breathability and movement but are much tougher.

I usually look pretty rough coming out of the forest.

Hey Dave, I just checked out that web site. Those pockets look nice, going to try me a pair of those.
Thank You

A lot has to do with where you work. I tried wearing khaki pants when I first went into business. Most of them did not last one day and came home with shredded pants....at least it was not bare legs. I wear double layer carhart type pants most of the time.
