or at least my early adulthood. My wife and I went to a concert last night, the first one in several years. I have quite eclectic (read strange) taste in music. In the early 1970's my favorite band was "Poco". After they split up the bass player went on to play with a little band called the "Eagles". We last saw Poco in 1976 just before they broke up. My (future) wife had a crush on Timothy B. Schmit (the bass player). A couple of weeks ago I heard he was going to be in town at a small venue and surprised her with tickets. I could almost close my eyes and relive some of the old concerts, except for the smell or burning leaves of course. This place only seats about 500 and while there I saw that Eric Burdon and the Animals will be there in November, I may just return to my youth again.

We have an old movie theatre here in Norman that has been revamped and hosts similar venues to about 250 seats. Poco hasn't made it yet, but I've seen Little Feat, Kingston Trio, Marcia Ball, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Ray Benson & Asleep at the Wheel and a number of other really 'entertaining-but-not-quite-mainstream' acts. I love it...it's only a few blocks from the house.

Edit: Paden's Third Rule of the Universe (concerning relived youth): If you haven't grown up by age 60, you don't have to.

Well I haven't grown up (at least according to my wife), so I guess I don't have to.

Me talking to an older player I met at the Wednesday night, electric jam hosted by the local dive, "So you grew up around here?"
Him (at age 58), "I'm still working on that."

Long live the small venue and the not-quite-mainstream pro's that fill them up!

Well, that pretty much sums up the last twelve years for me.

I stopped growing upward in my early high school days. Outward is a completely different story.
