Well all, we had one heck of a start-up here. Over 260 threads and over 2200 posts. Let's hope it keeps going!
There were some serious survey threads, some just for fun, some humor, some just plain silly, some thoughts on how this place works, and a little P&R with none of the over-the-top stuff that is still going on elsewhere (let's hope it stays this way, but I'm sure it will go over to the dark side occasionally). It's even nice to have TDD here.
We need to recruit more active participants, lurkers are always welcome, and keep things (more or less) professional.
We all thank Wendell for doing this! I know he has put a lot of time into it and there will be much more to come. For those that haven't checked out "Beer Money" in the upper right, please click it and read - respond if you are so motivated.
This place is going to be fun. Let's keep it that way!

my son just walked by, "what's Beer Leg, Dad?" ... It's a cool new surveyors board... "what about POB (rhymes with BOB)?"
I'm not sure what's going to happen with POB. time will tell.
I hate to complain, is it just me, or is this site getting slower, maybe the number of threads and participantss.

I've noticed on my computer at the office that this site seems to take a while to load. Not always, but usually. I'm not quite sure what kind of connection we have here - it is run by an internet company next door.
At home, it loads quite a bit faster, but now and then has a page that seems to take a few seconds. I have a cable modem at home.
Wendell Thanks !
Thanks! It wouldn't be possible without the people.
We technically opened the doors on June 30, but the real action started happening on July 1. The holiday weekend was incredibly busy, which I didn't expect. In fact, I figured it would be a great way to start because there wouldn't be as much traffic. Ha!
Anyone for some quick statistics? Here they are from June 30th to midnight last night:
- Total # of visits: 5,810
- Total # of pages viewed: 113,245
- Ave. time onsite per user: 17.5 minutes
- Ave. # of pages visited per user: 19.5
Also, Google is reporting us at #1 when searching for "beer leg".
All I can say is, "wow".
I was having severe slowness issues here on IE but on Firefox this site is really fast. I haven't tried the new RPLS with Firefox to see if it helps over there.

That sounds suspiciously like a spyware problem and IE is more susceptible than Firefox. I would highly recommend using Malwarebytes' Anti-malware. Best spyware detection and removal software I've seen yet. Once you have it installed, be sure to check for updates each time prior to scanning.
Another possibility is IE's cache. It may be overloaded. I've found that CCleaner is the best for housekeeping. When installing, be sure to uncheck boxes pertaining to installing third-party software, such as toolbars. Once it's installed, you can analyze your system and it will tell you how much crap is on it. Then "Run Cleaner" to clean it all up! Be sure to uncheck the cookies checkbox under Internet Explorer and Firefox first if you don't want to lose any saved login data you may have for various sites.
Cool, the two programs I run as well. I have McAfee for the firewall and 24/7 protection, but run CCleaner and Malwarebytes weekly to keep the Vista OS tuned up.
Ditto that.
I also run the FileHippo Update Checker. It's sort of like Windows Update, but checks for updates for nearly any software you might have running and provides download links to them.
Spybot is also good, but a little more advanced. I don't actually run the spy detection tool on it though. I use it for the immunization feature, which is awesome.
And to finish off my little "suite" of tools I use weekly, Defraggler keeps the hard drive running smoothly.
I don't use a third-party firewall in Windows 7 (the built-in firewall seems to be sufficient), but if I were to choose one, I'd probably go with PC Tools Firewall Plus.
🙂
It partially depends on the contents of the threads. If many of the threads on the main page contain lots of images and/or embedded videos, it has to load all of those. It's not necessarily using more bandwidth, but those things do have to be pulled from their various sources.
When I first opened the doors here, there were 30 threads on a page. I've upped that to 50 but I'm thinking maybe the default 30 was the wiser choice. That would probably cut the load time to almost half.
I've been looking for a good defrag tool and am following your lead on Defraggler. Thanks, for the info.
Also, I have noticed that folks are being nicer to each other than on the old pob. I hope that continues!
Even our pictures (or in Deral's case...GIS Cartoon) have smiling faces...LOL

Smiles do add to the generally nice atmosphere!

Wendell has worked almost non-stop on this for the past few days. So much that I forgot what his voice sounds like, sans the occasional cuss word when talking to his PC. 😉
But, tonight, *I* get Wendell for a full 2-3 hours as it is bowling night!! Of course he will bring his DROID with him so he can still check in on here. Talk about dedication...POOR WIFE! Just kidding...I am so glad you all are here and your support and contribution to http://www.beerleg.com is freaking awesome!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
(I could use some more "profound" words here but...I must be a lady and refrain. 😉 )
