I am on my way home (currently about six miles AGL between MSP and PDX)from a week long vacation and visit with Jerry Davis, a poster here who I only knew through the old board as a name in cyberspace a few years ago, Jerry has become one of my good friends since then! I think this is about my sixth time to his house since 2007 and he has visited me in Oregon twice.
A big thanks to Jerry and his wife for hosting my wife and I this past week, and for the great Thanksgiving gathering (2nd one with Jerry since 2007!) They are very gracious hosts and I count it a great privilege to know them. This type of friendship is a great outcome of the idea orginated by Mark Deal!

Simply fantastic.
Isn't Jerry the former U2 pilot and VW Rabbit enthusiast or do I get you guys mixed up.
Shelby
I have never had the pleasure of meeting Jerry.
I have developed a similar relationship with Christof Lambrecht from this Board. Unfortunately, because of the distance we are not able to get together as often as you and Jerry.
Thank you Wendell for picking up where Mark Deal left off.
Yes that is correct, I rode in the old Rabbit yesterday!

Glad to hear you made it home ok. I have been working on the J-3 engine replacement. We are in the mode of taking the connections off the old engine now. The new one is about completely assembled and is waiting to take the torch. As usual I drove the VW rabbit back and forth to the airport.
Shelby and I met over a phone conversation about balancing beads for tires. He mentioned them on the old site and I was having troubles with front tire balance on the Chevy Dually. Got the information and web address from Shelby, ordered some of the beads and tire balance problems are a thing of the past.
He brought us some good cheese from Oregon and I gave him some Poche Bridge Cajun Seasoning. That stuff is good on just about everything. Every time I go by that part of the country on Interstate 10, stopping by is a must for some good Cajun Cooking and a new supply of the Seasoning. I found out about Poche's market on the old board.
I can vouch that both Jerry and Shelby are first class in every way.
Glad everyone had a great time at the Davis house.

I can't vouch for Jerry other than what I have read in posts over the years. I would vouch for him on those accounts however.
Shelby on the other hand called me one day wanting directions to the house [the one I had in NC]. It was not an easy place to find as LarryP can attest [he has been there as well]. Plus, it was an hour's drive out of his way. I sort of tried to talk him out of it but Shelby wouldn't hear of it. About an hour or so later, here comes his survey rig hawling up the hill for a visit!
God's speed Shelby!
He is good people in the first order.

I think my avatar is set now.
It was taken with a Minox Camera returning from a Cuban Overflight in the U-2 in 1965. Don't know how much detail will be showing. I am having my lunch and a little relax time crossing the gulf returning to Barksdale AFB at Shreveport, LA.
Gosh Eric, you are causing me to blush!
