This photo shows several trick-or-treaters traveling together.?ÿ The four pointed away from the camera are dressed as cows.?ÿ The young fellow in the front must have a parent or close relative or close family friend who is a veterinarian because that is what the little fellow's get-up represents.?ÿ The coup-de-grace is that he is wearing the palpation glove.

For those not fully versed in the adventures in the bovine world, this explanation is offered.?ÿ The palpation glove is standard veterinarian gear for pregnancy checking cows to determine if they are bred and, if so, about how far along they are in the gestation period.?ÿ This is a messy, nasty business.?ÿ The cow is placed in a chute to hold her relatively still as the vet inserts the gloved hand and arm into the rectum with one hand while lifting the tail out of the way with the other.?ÿ Typically, a few handfuls of manure and other matter will be extracted to help the vet get his arm in clear up to the shoulder (especially for large cows).?ÿ Once able to reach the correct area inside the body, the vet pushes down to determine if there is a partially formed calf floating in the womb.?ÿ This requires much practice in order to become proficient in making estimates on the stage of the gestation.?ÿ The palpation glove reaches to the shoulder of the veterinarian to prevent the spread of disease and to keep the vet cleaner than would happen otherwise.?ÿ A new glove is typically used for each cow.

This little fellow has four "cows" assuming the position for him to palpate.

This shows how the uterus is located below the rectum.?ÿ?ÿ

This process serves two very important pieces of information.?ÿ One, if the herd were all supposed to be bred at about the same time, is the cow bred or not bred.?ÿ Two, for general round up and sorting of cattle, how far along is the stage of pregnancy.?ÿ This allows sorting the herd to put cattle of a certain stage into a group with others predicted to calve around the same time.?ÿ This is quite helpful with allowing the rancher to know when to be focused on potential arrivals, especially any who might require assistance.

When I was about 10, I was staying at a farm down the road from my grandparents; Windy Gates Manitoba?ÿ

They had a son, a couple years older than me?ÿ

One day a truck pulls into the yard and this guy grabs a milk can, opens it up. It's got dry ice and these glass vials at the end of metal rods. My buddy's dad picks one and they head into the barn

We head around to the other side and sneak into walkway on the outside of the opposite stalls?ÿ

The visitor was a Vet; he puts on one of them gloves and goes shoulder deep in this cow's !yoohoo!, just like it's not a big deal, talking the whole time: feels real good in there, shouldn't be any problems, this is going to work great ????ÿ

The whole time, this cow's eyes are rolling back in her head ???? ???? and she's making some God awful noises!?ÿ

Not many city folks get to witness this kind of thing...

My buddy's that fall, when I got back to school, were definitely impressed?ÿ

We went to visit an Amish farmer. As he left the house, he announced "I'm going to go breed my neighbors cow".

I went along, but I knew what was afoot.

Too bad those cows weren't dressed up as lawyers and/or politicians...

Shoulder deep might get those "advocates" to do pursue something more useful.

The cow is placed in a chute to hold her relatively still as the vet inserts the gloved hand and arm into the rectum with one hand while lifting the tail out of the way with the other.?ÿ Typically, a few handfuls of manure and other matter will be extracted to help the vet get his arm in clear up to the shoulder

$500 later, with my arm up that cows rectum, I made a discovery: This is not as hard as digging holes in the pavement.....

I foresee at home A.I. services being offered to single women who want total control over their reproduction which would include the culling of undesirable offspring. ?ÿThe ultimate in reproductive freedom. ?ÿFast becoming an advanced society absent a moral compass.

Did you hear the story:

"I recently spent $6,500 on a young registered Black Angus bull. I put him out with the herd, but he just ate grass and wouldn't even look at a cow. I was beginning to think I had paid more for that bull than he was worth. Anyhow, I had the Vet come and have a look at him. He said the bull was very healthy, but possibly just a little young, so he gave me some pills to feed him once per day. The bull started to service the cows within two days, all my cows! He even broke through the fence and bred with all of my neighbor's cows! He's like a machine! I don't know what was in the pills the Vet gave him ............ But they kind of taste like peppermint."
