Headed out in the morning at O'dark-thirty to King Salmon, AK to a fishing trip sometimes called Ice Station Zebra, and usually called crazy. The season for Rainbow trout closes on the 10th of April, and ice just went out of the Naknek River. We plan to use our 14' two-handed casting Spey rods to toss 6" long ugly leach and flesh flies to attract some of the worlds largest rainbows on our line. Temperatures will be between the teens and maybe some above freezing 30s, with snow/rain and wind. Tomorrow forecast of wind east 20 knots, gusting 45. This is not the trip for the weak. Wading up to your chest, tossing 100' of line with heavy sink tips and huge flies (have full Beaver Helmet) and dealing with icing rod guides and frozen toes and other extremities. Just getting the boat in the water over a 4' ice shelf, the motor running, and navigating heavy pan ice will be a challenge. BUT>>>... we will chain smoke cigars, but on bravado, test our skills to the limit, and in the evening drink more good single malt scotch than a man has a right to... Goodby work, phone, internet, TV and civilization for five days.. See you on the backside with photos and videos.

Northern out

Catching fish sounds like fun too....;-)

Have fun, and like Angel says, stay safe.
