First of all, congrats on the Border Collie.

I had one for 15 years, her name was Jenny, her ashes are in a box on my mantle.

My sons will tell their children about her, she was smarter than most humans I know and protected our land with a passion.

When my boys were little, many times they told me that Jenny would grab them by the pants and put them down, I knew they were fixing to do something stupid and Jenny took care of it.

She would not ever step foot inside of the house, even when she was invited, hot or cold, her place was outside roaming our land.

We had a few goats and cattle once and she took care of them like her own.

She was more than a dog, she was part of the family, the day she passed was a very sad day.

Give the dog plenty of room to roam, they are bred for that.

BTW, I vote for naming him Pistol, he just looks like one.

> Bandit.

I have a 2 year old black and white who is named Bandit. Mine has more of a "bandit" mask on his face, though.

Fixin II Lickit. Fixin for short.

Or, since he is from Kentucky, how about a play on past Triple Crown winners..."Sir Barkon"....

Sir Barton

The first winner of the Triple Crown was Sir Barton in 1919. The phrase "Triple Crown" was not created at that time, but he was the actual first winner of all three races.

Just looked at the pictures again.

That cable around his neck just hurts my feelings.

This is a ranch dog, not something to be tied down.

Get a weenie dog or a poodle or something if you do not have the acreage to support such a dog as this one.

Nothing worse than a dog on a chain. Just pitiful.

Since the Border Collie is of Scottish origin a Gaelic name is quite appropriate. The Gaelic name Conan has the additional benefit of meaning "wee doggie".

My white West Highland Terrier is named Finlay, "the white warrior or hero."

Other Gaelic names can be found here: http://www.namenerds.com/scottish/gaelicdude.html

I also like the name Barrett.

Not to hijack... but I have some venison jerky heading your way before Xmas. I killed an 8 pointer last week and I had some jerky strips cut just for you old pal.

I was going to recommend "Tongue" but that's already taken. In that case, may I suggest "Colonel Ingus"?

RH note that I don't have the dog yet, the pic was taken at a cattle dog training farm.

Get him some chickens. My neighbor's border collie would keep himself entertained all day, every day, herding chickens.

We took him over to another friend's house, who raises goats, and I thought the dog was going to kill himself. 40 goats, 15 acres, and all day to work them.

If you don't have room for chickens, you don't have room for a border collie.

Needless to say, my wife's cats resisted all attempts to be herded.
