Hi everybody,

My wide carriage HP-1220C doesn't print the color red. Now why would that be? I changed the drivers. My computer trouble shooting doesn't show anything is wrong. Anyone have this problem? Do I junk the beast.

BTW, thanks for the website. Just like the good ole days. Now all we need is that survey maniac, Ted Dura Dura,

Out of ink, or clogged?

I don't think it likely the problem is with the drivers.

As others said, it sounds like maybe you've just run out of magenta ink.

If the cartridge is full you can wipe the cartride print heads & the circuit contacts on the cartridge & in the plotter off with rubbing alcohol - guessing here, I am used to a 450c plotter and printheads.

Our old cartridges, if they weren't used for a couple of days, would sort of "cake" around the head & then you would have to fold up a paper towel over the print head and shake it for a minute or so.

"Do I junk the beast."
No way, do as suggested with a new color cartridge and maybe an alcohol massage.

Been there, done that, already sent to the corner for a timeout, exactly like old times. 🙂

I am surprised HP error message did not come up on screen warning on low colour level.

If inks are over a certain age there is also an error message from HP.

If you have not got warnings then would suggest that you have something that is hot.

When I upgraded my computer from 98 to XP and installed the new driver, I lost the ability to monitor my 1220.
I don't know that it is getting low on ink until it starts printing poorly and then a yellow light flashes on the 1220.
I could monitor it with 98, but not with XP.
