So our 52" tv that I bought from a buddy 7 years ago for $500 gave it up the other day. I wanted to get the latest and greatest so the wife and I went to the closest Best Buy 45 miles away Wednesday night to see what that might be. Asked the salesman kid with the scraggly beard what his best tv was and he led us over to a 55" Samsung with a curved screen, 3D HD 1080p 240 refresh rate for $2000. Was sitting on a nice wood and tempered glass stand that my wife liked, and was hooked up to a $650 sound bar he would sell for $300 since the display was the only one he had. Negotiated what I could and told him I'd take it. Of course when he went to check us out, lo and behold he did not have any more of the tvs, couldn't sell that one since they had only just got it in, but could get us one by July 8. I really wanted to get it over with, so I asked what's the next best? Went back to the one right next to it, it's a 60" Samsung, last years model of the same tv without the curved screen. It was marked down another $500 below the first one, and we couldn't tell any difference, so said we'd take it, along with the stand and sound bar from the first one. Turns out it was also the last one, but he could sell it. He handed me an envelope with the manual, remote, cables, etc in it and wrapped the tv in bubble wrap. No problem getting it and the sound bar in the car, but the stand was in a box about 8' long that weighed about 200 lbs. I told him I would pick it up yesterday in my truck.

Got the tv home and hooked up, but the remote in the manual was completely different than the one in the envelope. It has about 50 buttons on it, but the one in the book only had a few and a touch pad. Also didn't see any 3d glasses. So when I went back to get the stand, another salesman kid with a scraggly beard said " yeah, that remote comes with it but the one with the touchpad does too". So he went looking for one but there's not one in the store. He did find 2 pairs of glasses that went with it, but there should have been 4. He got 2 new pair off the shelf but had to order the remote. So he got on his computer to place the order and have it shipped to me. But after entering all the info, his computer locked up. Did it twice on his computer, then tried another one, then went to the front and tried another. I finally wrote my name and address down so he wouldn't have to keep asking. I finally asked him if there wasn't a number he could call. "That's a good idea". So after about 5 minutes on the phone he got it ordered. I was there right at an hour.

But there's more. Got a call last night asking if the sub-woofer was with the sound bar. No, only got the single bar,I assumed it was built into it. Nope, they had found one that matched up with the bar I bought and would set it aside. So I went back this morning and picked it up, a square box about 1' square. They handed me another small box they said had the remote, manual, and cables with it. So got it home and looked at the manual. It appears to be for something else entirely. And the speaker is wireless, nowhere to plug any cables. Messed with it for awhile but never got it working, so decided to come out here.

Misadventures like these are why I try to only buy run-of-the mill, in the box items. Also why I try to never "special order" food at restaurants, oh it will be "special" all right.

Also why I mostly shop on Amazon.

You know, that's a good thought. Maybe on my next trip ( I'm pretty sure there"ll be one) I'll invite one of those scraggly faced kids ( I'm sure there'll be one) to the lake.

Don't need no stinking remote.

There is an android app for that called Smart Remote.

Still setting it all up on Samsung Galaxy S5 and most of that is getting myself up to speed.

I have Samsung and Sony, Blueray and Receiver and it will run those and the DishTV box.

Every major brand is supported and it is probably the only remote needed.

You can find all the manuals with Google and with some extra searchilng, find more instructions than the manual will give.

3D is very cool. Don't remember the title, there is a scene where a hummingbird is hoovering at the end of my nose.

I actually think it extremely cool to be out on the lake on a barge :good:

I bought one of those run of the mill; out of the box flat screen tv's a couple years ago. My 3 year grandson comes over and in less than 5 minutes, he's watching what he wants to watch, on NetFlix.

I didn't even know we had NetFlix.....:-S

Maybe you didn't before he got there! Bwahahahaha

I don't know why but this reminded me of the time I "won" tickets to wrestlemania by being caller # such and such. It was the mid '80s and I was 6 years old. I had a long talk with the parents where they explained to me what toll calls were. 😀

I saw that smart sense app, not sure yet what to do with it on iPhone. Was looking at manuals while out here soaking up the sun. Fireworks show at this marina tonight and the next one down tomorrow night. Pretty interesting trying to get the boat on the trailer at 10 pm, probably skip it tonight.
I think this was fuller when we got here.

You know the saying about that box store. Best Buy, Worst Service. I'll never buy any of their junk.

Best Buy....NOT.

They do not have very good prices. I will agree about the lousy service.

Might want to check on that. I gave $1499 for this one.

Salesman may not have been very good, but the tv is great.

Well...I stand corrected then. I haven't seen a great deal at Best Buy for anything I shopped there for. But it sounds like they do have some deals.

As the saying goes, it depends.

A few years ago, I went to Best Buy to get an HDMI cable. A sales person showed me where they were. When I saw the price of $100 (yes, one hundred dollars) for a six foot cable, I could not get out of there fast enough..... while the sales person was saying "but it's a good quality cable....."

As soon as I got home, I ordered 2 thirty foot HDMI cables for about $27 or so (for both cables, not individual price).

It would have been nice to have the cables that day, but not at that price.....

For premium quality audio and video cables at really good prices, I generally order mine from monoprice.com.
