This link has some info about a hidden virus that has been spreading for over a year, and is set to unleash on Monday. It tells how to check your computers, and what to do about it.
Actually, after rereading the article, it's not the virus attack that's the problem, it's that the FBI will be shutting down the hacker's servers that have been controlling other people's computers, thereby kciking them offline.
The virus attack IS the problem.
The FBI interviened and did a temporary fix and in the last 6 or 8 months numerous warnings and instructions on how to fix the problem have been sent out by the ISP's. Only those that have chosen to ignore the email notifications will be affected.
My provider, Comcast, has notified its users that should they get dumped they have techs ready to get them back on line as soon as possible. A phone number has been provided and/or the user can set an appointment for a tech to come on site to fix the problem.
There's no way that the FBI could run those servers for ever. People were notified and a fix is in place. I do not see how the FBI could have done anymore. Matter of fact the steps they took were well above and beyond what is normally expected from a government agency.
the article state 570,000 computers
that would be small potatoes
how many computers are there?
It's estimated that there are between 900 million and one billion personal computers in the world right now (with two billion to be reached by about 2015).

Your computer appears to be looking up IP addresses correctly!
now, you would think that the FBI and their contractor could just send a reverse virus back to the small number of infected machines. oh well, out of my pay grade...
Doesn't work for me - that domain name does not appear to exist...
Windows XP - go to start, run, type cmd and hit enter...
At the command line type...
ipconfig /all
and enter.
If any of the following IP addresses appear under "DNS Servers" then you have the virus:
Starting IP-----Ending IP-------CIDR
85.255.112.0----85.255.127.255--85.255.112.0/20
67.210.0.0------67.210.15.255---67.210.0.0/20
93.188.160.0----93.188.167.255--93.188.160.0/21
77.67.83.0------77.67.83.255----77.67.83.0/24
213.109.64.0----213.109.79.255--213.109.64.0/20
64.28.176.0-----64.28.191.255---64.28.176.0/20
Works fine for me.....

Interesting... all I get is a message that that domain name does not exist. Maybe my computer has it!
