Today I had to make a U-turn in a median cut. I slowed down, used my left turn signal and moved into the cut. Fortunately, the vehicle in the opposing lane had just passed by because there wasn't enough room for me to park my car parallel to the road. I wanted to make the U-turn quickly because someone driving too fast almost introduced themselves through my rear end! I want to go out to the cut, measure it, photograph it, and submit the data to the county engineers. I think the cut needs to be lengthened. I have to research this.
You're probably not the first or the last!
Maybe your chariot is larger than the 95% vehicle.
It's been a while now, but once upon a time I could quote you the required opening (nose to nose) and the required stacking distance for the lane depending on the design speed of the road.?ÿ One of those "use it or lose it" things.
I so rarely encounter such big-cityishness that I avoid them like the plague.?ÿ Foolish me will continue on to the first REAL intersection and find a safer method of achieving the basic goal.?ÿ It is longer and slower, but, I'm still alive and I'm not calling my auto insurance agent.
stacking distance
I like the terminology! In this case the stacking distance was less than one.
Nope. I drive a Toyota Corolla. A lot of the local folks drive trucks. All the more reason to widen the median cut.
