Drove down on Friday for my Niece's wedding, scheduled for Sunday, 6pm at the Washington Golf and Country Club. Big family/rehearsal dinner friday at Assagi in McLean first, leisure day Saturday and most of Sunday so I was able to take in some sights.
Saturday was the Library of Congress, Jefferson Building, and a quick visit to the State Dept.
While looking around I noticed scaffolding at the top of the Congress building Dome. Looking closer I noticed a person was actually working up there!I snapped a picture with my camera pohne and you can make the person out on the right hand side of the dome. It was amazing to see the dome to "scale"!!
Sunday we went to the National Galleries, east and west building and I took a quick visit to the National Archives. SWMBO liked the sculpture garden but I prefer old documents!
The wedding was very tasteful, not to small but nice, about 90 people.
Got to meet Gen. Jones and his wife, Diane, who were very nice and charming folks. Diane told some funny stories about Jim and my brother in law Chuck Wald.
My 14 yr old daughter accompanied us and my mother came up from FLA, here are the four of us just prior to the wedding.
The weather was perfect for the ceremony Sunday and we drove home yesterday. We got held up a few hours due to a 5am accident in MD on 495 where a beer truck and a car had a serious accident. Even at 11am when we finally passed the wreck there was beer all over the side of the road!!
nice looking family shots and I am glad you took that damn thing off of your head for the occasion.
That could be Dave Doyle up on the dome. He is always up to something.
so sorry i missed the rendezvous. SWMBO had me on some things with her. will get together for s&w next spring if you're still in for that
Big Escalator - Pics!
Went to DC in December 2005. Had a blast!! The best part was it was mid December so there wasn't a lot of tourists there and everything was pretty much empty. The worse part is it was mid December and I froze my butt off walking everywhere. I found the Metro to be very fun and clean!!!
I managed to talk Wendell into going on the Metro to see the biggest escalator in the Western Hemisphere. He was fine until we got to it then he goes "OH NO WAY! NO F'ING WAY AM I RIDING THAT!" Needless to say we didn't go up and down it but I did get some pics and people looking at me like I was nuts for taking pics of this escalator. 😛
Grown man afraid of an escalator...I tell ya. 😉
Metro. Reminded me of a ride at Disneyland.

Angel,
The summer before last, we were in DC and were catching the metro to the National Zoo.
We were going down the one of the big escalators and our 6 year old at the time let his hand slide down the outside of the hand rail all the way down. We went got to the bottom and we noticed he had a about a 1/4 ' of black soot completely covering his inner hand. No bathrooms on the platform so back up the escalator where I found a metro employee sweeping up. She looked at the boy's hand and said to follow her. She led us though the employees gates and into the employee wash room/ locker so he could get cleaned up. They had some goop that he used also.
Nice people there in the DC metro.

I found anyone working/dealing with tourists to be very kind and helpful too!! I went to the park thing there where they had the national Christmas tree and the Ranger guy there helped me with pictures and took a video of me in front of the giant tree. The Smithsonian workers were great; so were the people at Union Station. Only place I encountered rude stuffy people was at the Pentagon City mall. MAN... They were awful!! 😐 Oh and trying to get on the freeways there was quite a feat. We risked our lives every time we tried to merge. LOL!!

Well, maybe the staff, but at times the riders leave a little to be desired 🙁

Be careful on the DC metro; you are likely to run into the likes of me.
Now that is a scary prospect.

When I worked for PKS in Omaha, I helped a guy lay out his escalator at the airport terminal we were building. It was 1985 and all we had was a steel tape, transit and level.
