My neighbor Brian does color tattoos. This is one that he did that I thought surveyors might find interesting. He does a lot related to our river and navigation. Very nicely done, in my opinion.
We are off today on the bike (nearly 70f) and heading farther south to get some chess pie and cornbread that resembles pancakes. Southern Kentucky cooking but we will stop at several courthouses for pictures and to soak up the local flavor.

Wouldn't that be North 30 degrees West?
No, think about it.
Red arrow is "north", site along S-N line.
You are in the NE quadrant.
That's why the W and E are swapped on old guns, so you can read the bearing directly.

That reminds me of a joke involving a constipated elephant, a cork, and JoJo the monkey!
Sometimes, tattoos can go completly wrong.....:-O
It's best to know who you are dealing with...
You are right, in a real compass, the E and W are switched so that you read directly on which quadrant you are in.

Unfortunately the Tattoo operator got the technical details wrong.
> It's best to know who you are dealing with...
I disagree. It's best not to get a tattoo (tramp stamp) at all.
I guess that is why I could never figure out how to use a compass (showing my age). Thank you, I learned something today.
That is why he is a tattoo expert and not a survey expert!
My father mentioned that, if that were a compass on a gun, it'd be backwards.]
I told him it's not from a gun, it's from a map.
