I live in Brighton, TN, about 30 miles or so north of Memphis. The rain started yesterday morning, and changed over to freezing rain yesterday afternoon arounf 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

I spent about 3 or 4 hours this morning thawing out the truck, my wife's van, and the youngest daughter's car. I did not tackle the backup work truck. My oldest had to stay at a friend's house in Memphis because of the bad roads.

We have about 2 to 2-1/2 inches of ice and sleet accumulation. It has been snowing all day, but it is mostly sleet and ice. I am barely leaving any footprints in the snow/ice, and I am a pretty big guy. It sounds like you are walking on a sheet of ice. You can hear it cracking under your feet.

I have to hit the road again in the morning. Thankfully I have a little work lined up for the next week or so.

Be safe out there guys.

Yea Jimmy, that global warming isn't exactly working out here either. It was a mighty frosty and windy walk to the beer store earlier.
Yesterday it was mid 70s - not so today with a freeze warning tonight.
Be safe.

It All Goes Bad When Power Lines Go Down

Ice brings trees down.

Trees bring power lines down.

No power shuts you down.

Downed trees and wires shut roads down.

If you note the trend is down, down, down.

There is always next week.

Thankfully it has stayed down South of us.

We had the same thing over the weekend in Okie-homey. The ice finally turned to snow yesterday afternoon. We even had a 15 degree "thunder-blizzard" with nickel size hail and lightning. After sundown yesterday the clouds blew away and we dropped to 3 or 4 above. Mighty cold for this part of the world.

Today has been deceivingly sunny. It maybe made it to 10 or 12. Looks like some of the ice is evaporating rather than melting...it's just subliming from frozen to water vapor.

I made some 'no work today' calls to the crews this morning...only one answered his phone! I didn't hear a car until well after noon. Best just to stay in if you can and cook a pot o' beans. B-)

stay safe and warm!

Don't forget Paul..... If the power goes out and you are on a well with electric pump, you have no running water. This happened to me and my ex in 97 (I think) in Western NC mountains. She was clueless and I just started melting snow by the fireplace. Leave it to a southern Illinois farm boy to marry an Atlanta city girl and move her to Appalachian mountains. And, a vegetarian to boot - her, not me. Hind sight I would guess talk about oil and water. I got us through it just fine.

This too shall pass.

We have a forecast of 1/2" to 3/4" inch of ice tonight, if that comes to fruition, Central Texas will make national news with the amounts of traffic accidents.

We were at 5 degrees wind chill this morning, wind roaring at 30-40 mph.

I sure hated to tell the crew they had to work:whistle:

Not what most of you guys have to deal with, but its been a wild winter here.

Randy

One of my friends in Memphis has griped all winter about the forecasts for ice and snow that never come. I guess he got his wish this time.
