I applied to the school board last Spring to fill a position. The former person who held the position recommended me. It was a coaching position. I was approved by the school and the director of athletics for the Paris(county)h school board.

Last step has been trying to get through the HR process. Very lenghty app with a lot of info and sign offs that go on forever. major background checks so they want to know everything about your past from jobs, residences and 9 contact references so far in the process. After going through all of this little mountain of paperwork, I decided to apply for other openings at the school board as a paraprofessional.

I should get my ID mug shot and fingerpriningt next week and then orientation hopefully.

But....I got to get my confidiality agreement notarized now.

Then next week, test for the state certification if there isn't a catch 22

Kind of makes one wonder how some of the hairballs (from newspaper reports) get into positions of responsibility with children when the employment background checks are so involved. Years ago (20+), I had to get an FBI check done on wife & me before we could adopt from out of country ... yet there's still people getting arrested for adopting children for exploitation within the U.S.

I wonder if the paper chase is just that? Paper chase with no real checks?

I dunno.
There was a bad incident at a Slidell school in the recent past year or two involving a custodian.
There have been a few others.
One was a retired coach of HS, who opened a restaurant and was charged with some sex offenses with waitresses.
I think that they are being earnest but the troublesome issue to me is that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.
The odd thing is that because of my involvement in youth soccer. I have aannual criminal background check with the state. On the average, I usually have 2 or 3 done annually because I particiopate in various tournaments etc. which require backgound checks.

I never made the third strike.
The one challenging page on the app was "List residence addresses from the age of 18 to present"

I took it to mean permanent addresses and wondered if I could narrow it down to only cities.

😉
