It was raining like a cow pissin' on a flat rock this morning. The rain has scuttled most of the field work. I stayed in my batman jammies (with the feet) until 9 or so. Working back here in the man cave on a rainy day is peaceful sometimes.
But I have a special guest back here today. Hoyt Axton's banjo. I've got it leaned up agin the wall just a few feet from my desk. Oh, the stories it has told me so far this morning!
It's not mine to possess. Just on loan from the real owner, a fellow surveyor. A long, uninteresting story that I won't dive into, just happy to have such an honored guest back here amongst the clutter. 🙂
This afternoon I'm going to get my old Strat out and introduce them, lean them up next to each other. Maybe some sparks will rub off..
Good tunes....
On another note, where’d you get the batman jammies? Wal-Mart used to have them as well as Spiderman jammies. Now all they have is that damn Duck Dynasty crap. I need a new pair before a plane crashes into my house in the middle of the night and I have to run outside only to be greeted by Eyewitness News and their talking heads. 😉
Hoyt was an interesting musician. His mother Maybelle Axton wrote Heartbreak Hotel. Hoyt wrote many songs performed by many different artist. Everything from Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog to the Pusher. Quite a variety. Too bad that he checked out early.
Grandma Axton
Grandma's name was actually Mae. I have heard a lot of people refer to her as Maybelle. Possibly a mixup with "Mother" Maybelle Carter, another matriarch of country music.
Here's Mae at the McSwain Theater in Ada, OK., mashing her hands in the wet concrete:

Here's a goody:
This pic was in the Sun Recording Studio. Elvis on the left, Grandma on the right.
A kewpie doll to the person that can identify the fella in the middle.;-)
My Batman Jammies

From my butler, Alfred, of course...
Grandma Axton
Alex, I'll take who is "Scottie Moore" for $800?
Thank you, please remember to stuff the Kewpie doll with the stuff YOUR Nun brought back. 😉
It's actually Faron Young
His real name, by the way. One of his first big hits in the '50s was "Hello Walls". A song that Willie Nelson was glad to see hit the charts...Willie wrote it.
