So there I was ten days ago in a shopping center I've been surveying for 27 years. They had just restriped some of the parking lot, so it was an easy task. There is a nice restaurant on site, and the employees were standing around. The f-word was used frequently. It seems they had showed up at 7 am as scheduled to get the kitchen ready, and the doors were locked because the manager hadn't shown up yet. They had been standing around for nearly two hours, and worse, now they didn't have enough time to prep the food for early lunch. Very unhappy employees, just trying to do their job.
I was back this morning because some of the stripes were incorrect and had to be repainted. There were the restaurant employees standing around by the back door, and the beer delivery guy, and the custom baked bread guy with huge loaves of bread on a cart. The manager hadn't shown up yet to open the door.
Well, playing devils advocate here....
I worked at least part of my way through college as a Shift Manager at a fast food restaurant. There were many times that I was scheduled to close one night, and then open the next morning. My parents house was about a hour away from the restaurant so on school breaks I would get to add that commute in (college housing was closed on most breaks). I slept through the alarm at least a few times when I got through working at Midnight, got home at 1 AM, took a quick shower (who wants to sleep smelling like grease) just to have the alarm go off 5 hours later to be back in at 7 to do prep. It got so bad I would just end up curling up in a Booth to sleep for the night.
Not sure if this is what is going on here, but being a restaurant manager is a pretty thankless job, for not much money.... 🙁
Wow, 27 years surveying a mall, that must be one huge MALL!!!! LOL
It sounds like if the manager can't make it on time, then at least someone else should be given a key to open up in the morning.
Or one slooooow surveyor

usually only takes us 5 or ten years to survey a mall around here.

Is it still open when you're done?

Being a control freak doesn't always equal being there
.
Restaurant Employee... Beer Delivery Guy... No Manager... Tell me where you want me to sign the invoice.
