Think of how many of them "babies" would fit on an Interstate at rush hour. No more stop and go just a giant go-kart race to the office. In Florida though, they would have to be equipped with a roll cage and 5 point harness. ?????ÿ
An EV might seem ideal for a small tropical island like St. John. Plenty of sun, expensive gas (about $1/gal. above mainland), nowhere to go further than 15 miles. But electricity is $.45/kwh and unreliable. We average almost an outage a week for 1-2 hours. You would need a huge solar array to charge a vehicle and then leave it at home all day to charge. The top officials for the Elec. Co. are getting investigated for corruption in contracting just as I'm finishing up a contract for them.
I think a truck with a computer controlled motor at each wheel would be a better AWD or 4WD than anything existing. And no company is making a electric truck that's small like I want.?ÿ ?ÿ?ÿ
Seems like Tesla owners are happy.?ÿ
I'm guessing that it will be performance and reliability that switches people over to EVs.?ÿ I doubt gas prices will be much of a factor in the end.
Combustion engines require too many parts.?ÿ Now that batteries are getting better and more charge stations are coming on line, I think the switch will get rolling.

There are many happy Tesla stock owners. ????

Porsche has nailed the performance aspect with respect to handling with the new Taycan. Their battery has a long way to go as do all EV batteries.?ÿ
Tesla car owners may be euphoric with their Model S, but as a car aficionado, the physical build of a Tesla is a disgrace for the list price. To call it a "luxury" car is simply wrong. For those who aren't particularly fussy about looks, the Tesla Model S is a remarkable car. ?????ÿ

I must say, these days, wood panel interior makes the hair on my back stand up.
Battery technology and the ability to recycle them will have to make great strides.?ÿ A better solution would be fuel cells or some other highly efficient source of portable electricity production that doesn't require massive quantities of relatively rare elements like lithium. Otherwise we'll just trade the use of one scarce commodity for another.
?ÿ
In the really big geophysical view point, petroleum and anything combustion based is just a derivative and storage of solar energy. Trees are essentially batteries. Oil and gas are the byproducts of trillions of tons of dead rotten animals and plants.?ÿ
We all need to let it go and move on; to the next fuel(s)
Oats...but I'm a pessimist.?ÿ?ÿ

A weekend fishing trip to Valdez will only take 4 days. That is if you can find charging stations.?ÿ One size doesn't fit all.?ÿ?ÿ

One size doesn't fit all.?ÿ?ÿ
In a few years it will. Lectron Co. currently makes a "Tesla to J1772" adapter that allows most cars to use their equipment but not their new "Superchargers". In North America that just about eliminates the worry associated with road trips in an EV. ???? ?ÿ
