Here is an update 3d logo. Too much?
I tend to get too busy on things. It has the WV colors and the 3d TS tripod and rod, prism, bipod I drew in 3d in acad.
I went with blue and gold WVU colors.
the old one you can see on my website jmgls.com
Looks nice but I think it is too busy for a logo.
Unfortunately conveying the surveying message through a simple logo is hard.
It is rather difficult to find a simple logo symbolizing neighbors who hate each other suddenly transferring that hatred to the surveyor who is telling them that both are wrong.
Are you placing the three counties of the eastern panhandle out of compass circle for graphic, geographic, or sociological reason?

I am in Roane County which I put at the center of compass. So those three ended up outside the compass or I would have had to make WV much smaller to fit them inside the compass and keep Roane County at the center of the compass. I like the way it looks anyway. Gives it more 3D feel to me.
Maybe try lightening the color of the county boundaries? That might help the compass needle stand out more.
Perhaps also try reducing the number of compass tics?
I also want to suggest tipping it up more, but that would likely reduce the 3D affect.
John,
I thought you just purchased a GPS.

I did but this has been my logo since I opened up shop in 2001. I'm just trying to make it more 3D than the old one.
I will probably update it with GPS once I get it and learn how to use it. It's still 'on the way'. Should be here this week, fingers crossed.
Probably add a satellite reflection in the reflecting pool around the state and a base or something to it. But I'm not putting away the TS just yet.
