For a while now I've been frustrated by a lack of serious computing power.
So I have bitten the bullet, raided the professional development budget and bought myself some new hardware.
The last of the bits - those two fancy screens - have finally arrived
The plan is to build a serious gis and graphic workstation, a twin headed number crunching monster, running Ubuntu.
I'll keep you posted regarding progress (or lack thereof)

128 or 256G of ECC Ram?

Ubuntu looks like a word attributed to rabbit vocabulary in "Watership Down".?ÿ Akin to hrududu which means automobile or tractor or something similar.
Nice, what type of graphics card? Some of them cost more than a whole tower and monitor setup.
ie: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 DirectX 12.00 only $1399 ?????ÿ

The graphics cards (two of) are Asus GT1030.
They are not as powerful as I would like. Bitcoin miners are building systems that use graphics processors to do their calcs - which has left a huge shortage of good cards worldwide. I'm expecting that I will want to upgrade them along the way

So now we know what you're playing when you're not surveying....
Up here we can't leave boxes like that at the curb.?ÿ It's bait for all the tweakers to come and steal your new stuff.?ÿ The safe thing is to put it in the recycle bin under cover of darkness.?ÿ?ÿ
That's why we have legal "open carry" laws for firearms...
I had to consult the Urban Dictionary (there were other, similar, definitions but they're unrepeatable):
I'm not so sure I want a dictionary that uses this spelling "percission"
My grandmother, who was lucky to be allowed to get a Sixth Grade education, complained about people telling someone to look for a word in the dictionary if they don't know how to spell it.?ÿ She wondered if anyone could every find the word 'scissors' if they didn't know how to spell it in the first place.
Progress report...
The new box is all together in the case and seems to be working.
One or two issues with getting the power leads right.
The SSD looks nothing like what I think of as a hard drive.
Next is to tweak the Bios settings a little and to try installing the OS.
Sounds like the solid state drive (SSD) is one of these PCIE cards, which look more like a memory stick. Word of warning, if they crap out, the data is unrecoverable. So most systems have a backup spinning drive.
Once did a job updating a survey...the corner lot was abandoned, and this being Seattle there was a homeless encampment. There was a tweaker rebuilding a rubble retaining wall. He did a great job. It looked outstanding when he got through. I didn't reshoot it, it looked like it was exactly the same from where I stood, which was far away as he either had a machette or a hammer in his hand most of the time.
I would claim autocorrupt got me, but that would be a lie.?ÿ Aye jest scruwed upp.?ÿ At least "every" is an actual word.?ÿ Extra letters are my specialty.?ÿ Withe is one of my favorites.?ÿ A combination of with and the.?ÿ Quarater is another frequent culprit,?ÿ Even seciton from time to time.
My word that I get wrong in similar fashion, is "ratio", which I mostly type as "ration". If I'm nervous about spelling and grammar, I pump it into Word, to check. Spell-check alone wont pick up your "every" or my "ration".
