Look on the bright side; you don't have to mow the yard anytime soon! Assuming you aren't using a snow blower or machine to move the snow, you will save gas on all fronts!

We are having the typical California spring transition weather. 2 weeks ago storming and cold. Yesterday sunny and a balmy 80+. Had to turn the ceiling fan on last night.

Just when everyone gets used to shorts and flip-flops we usually get another early spring storm series. I bet we get another foot or two in the mountains (Mammoth Mountain received over 40 feet so far this year).

My theory on the groundhog

Usually when you have unstable stormy weather you have breaks in it, sunny days (although cold). Therefore in an unstable, stormy pattern the groundhog is more likely to see his shadow.

But if you have stable, high pressure system type weather then that usually means fog in February so the groundhog is less likely to see his shadow. But the fog, at least around here, usually clears up by early March due to the longer days therefore a shorter winter.

My theory on the groundhog

We are in the midst of that crazy mid-continent phenomena that occurs about this time each year. Early in the morning on March 28 we had about one inch of snow covering everything. By 7:00 a.m. there was nothing but tiny bits of white here and there in cools pots. Almost hot on the 29th. Near noon on the 31st there was snow in the air, some flakes about the size of a quarter. This morning it was nearly 60 at 7:00 a.m. Tomorrow is supposed to be mid-80's. Monday night low is supposed to be 32.

My theory on the groundhog

Today is a cooler, overcast day. A forecast cold front is coming through. Not very cold outside though. California generally has two seasons, winter and summer and not much in between.

Washington has 2 seasons, spring and fall and if it does get cold or hot, it doesn't last very long. And it rains a lot, which keeps the air clean. Very moderate temperatures, people don't know how to dress. Seattle is the only place I've seen 2 people walking down the street, one wearing a heavy coat, the other wearing shorts and a tee shirt and it will January or August......

My theory on the groundhog

in California you can see shorts and flip flops on one person and the other wearing dark suit and tie at the same Funeral 😉

I may be a bit early but I put out tomato, squash and pepper plants today. If we don't have another frost I should have tomatoes by the first of June.
