Another tip: If it says "Diesel Fuel only" then don't use Gas!

Nope - it's on the passenger side.

My last VW had the fuel filler neck under the front hood not sure where the arrow would be on that gauge...pointing upwards? Then all the kids would be looking on the roof for the filler neck.

I always thought it was an import vs. domestic issue. In other words the drivers side is on the left in Europe.

My 92 Toyota truck is on the right, the 05 Tundra is on the left, my wife's 2000 honda civic is on the left, and I swear that Ford changed sides on the Explorer between 99 and 04. My best guess is that the automotive engineers put the fuel tank where it will fit and run the filler neck to the closest side.

My 2011 F150 has an arrow, and the filler neck is on the driver's side.

Let it go, but thanks for pointing it out.

I have 6 vehicles sitting in the yard that are 2000 or later and only one has the arrow. It's a 2012 Malibu.

And no, I did not know it had an arrow.

I needed to fill it up cause I didn't buy the tank of gas.
As I pull into the station I mentioned I didn't know which side the tank was on.

My son says, "look at the arrow".

I say, "what arrow?"

he gives me the eye roll, "all cars have an arrow indicating which side of the car the fill is on, it's shows on the gas gauge"

Look down and see the arrow, "huh, never knew that"

"Dad, everybody knows that"............

I ran across something not too long ago that mentioned the arrow pointing toward the gas cap. I was thinking I never knew that, and then I realized it was because every car I had ever owned was too old to have it.

2014 Ford Flex...right side, no gas cap...just open the door. Can't fill it from a gas can, it requires a metal gas station nozel.

I defy anyone to figure out how to open the fuel door on a Chevy Volt without studying the manual. Push the button you can't find for one second then go to the fuel door, hmm won't open, get manual, oh, you push the door in to open it.

Here is something else...I heard on Car Talk once that the gas cap is always opposite of the exhaust pipe (unless it had dual pipes - obviously).
I have yet to see a vehicle that does not follow this...

I pop the fuel door as I approach the station and look in the mirrors. Neither my Pilot or Passat have arrows. The Cessna has tanks on both sides.
Father is a retired State Patrolman who taught me that tail lights are linked to the dash lights. "Son, do you know how fast you were going?"

Actually makes sense. Almost all NA automobiles nowadays utilize a fuel tank nested among frame/ body structural members. It is usually on one side or the other. The exhaust, complete with hi-temp catalytic converter should, by design, maintain a good distance from stored fuel. Sooo..if the tank is on one side, it makes sense the exhaust would be on the other.

You can correct it but use surveyor nomenclature......"Your other left".
