I rode a mechanical bull today for the first time in my 47 years. Stayed on for about 30 seconds before getting thrown off. My wife told me not to, I told me not to, but I didn't listen to either one. My legs feel like jelly from clamping down on the bull while trying to keep balance, and I'll probably be eating ibuprofen tablets like M&M's for the next couple of days (my back already hurts), but I want to do it again.

One thing I learned early in life, "When you're dumb you got to be tough."

Good on you. I did it this past summer for the fist time. Made it 7 seconds.
Ever since Urban Cowboy I've wanted to do it.
Side note: The chicks thought I was hot. Wife, not so much.

You should have tried the real thing before you turned 35. Gets your adrenaline really flowing. I did it for about 5 years before I got smarter.

I went about 15 minutes on a horse one time before I spilled beer on it's neck. Man! They do not like that.

I knew a guy who was a bronco and bull rider. He had a long story about the time he got thrown from a bull and landed wrong on his arm. He couldn't use it much while driving home but figured it would get better.

Several days later he still couldn't do much with it, so he went to the doctor. After some X-rays, confusion, more X-rays, they decided it had been broken but it was too late to reset it, so told him to just keep it in a sling for a long time.

When the sling came off, he couldn't straighten it out fully. He kept trying for a while, and had a couple buddies help. One got in an arm wrestling grip with him, and the other one pushed on both of them. They couldn't straighten the arm completely.

He decided it was time to go back to bull riding. He wrapped the rope really good around that hand and held on for the count. He said when he got off that bull, his arm was straight again.

This guy was a wiry 5 ft 6, not much weight, but I'd probably bet on him against most football players.

Several of my kids buddies went into "pro" bull riding after high school.

These kids are now in their mid 20's.

Only one is still riding and making some money, the rest are dealing with injuries that will probably haunt them their entire life.

It is a lifestyle around here, but to me it is beyond stupid.

Glad you enjoyed your ride.

It was always my opinion that riding that bull was the last thing on my mind. You are a toy for the man holding the joy stick to play with. That steel framed bull is the least of your worries.

Earlier in life on the farm/ranch, I walked among the beasts daily. Got to understand to give them respect or they would trample you in an instant. Had to have constant eye contact with most bulls. The piece go ground they are standing on is their land, not yours. Try to tell one it isn't.

Randy

You are too big for anything except the bulldogging. I am not sure you could find a horse big enough to carry you that was fast enough to get you to the steer.

BTW, I rode bulls for 5 years in my youth and my father rode bulls and broncs for several years in the RCA. In the early 50's he was No. 11 in money winnings in the All Around standings. It kind of runs in families.

I have been told more than once that I was crazy for doing it. Of course I have never claimed to be either completely sane nor completely civilized. Nor would I want to be accused of either condition.

Have you ever dealt with a bull from a dairy breed? Holstein, Ayrshire, Jersey, etc.? They are notorious for being Crazy. Brahma's are nearly as bad.

But like you said, most bulls you don't move unless they decide that is what they want to do.

🙂
