No matter how much you wipe your boots, shoes or sandals off before you come in the house - there will be some sharp object embedded. Then that object will work it's way into the carpet, only to be discovered a few days later whilst walking barefoot. No matter what, there will always be another one.
I've been picking friggin Cholla needles from my feet for a week now. Then there is the ever present 'tumbleweed' seed, AKA "goat head" or "cockleburr". Or tiny little sharp rocks.
They all will ruin your day....:-(
yeah, but what was your lowest temp for the last week?
around my house it is baby pee. we try to leave the diaper off of the littlest one as much as possible. i always seem to find the wet just after i have put on a fresh pair of socks.

Better number one than number two. My old dog used to leave those little treats...ewwwww... squish squish
I'll take a goat head over that, any day. Don't you Southern folks have that kudzo stuff. Looks toxic IMO, seems like it would track in too.
RE: temps. Mild winter so far with very little rain and no snow. Still hits the low 30's at night though, 60ish highs. Looking like a bad fire season ahead.

And that my friend...is why they are called the "jumping cactus". They made for a great cactus wall, though, at my old house!!! People and animals and the such would use my yard as a crossing path to the main road. I planted those and some Ocotillos and some Pricklies and let them grow. Viola! No one used my yard anymore as the crossing station. 🙂

Hard to beat a cactus bloom, eh. They don't last very long, but sure are a sight of nature at it's finest. Things are just getting going now in the bloom department so the back road jeep ride is pending. But I'd just as soon they leave their needles in their own world and not enter my house...;-)
The bad part about the cool flowers is those poisonous reptilian critters with no hands or feet (just a mouth) that follow shortly thereafter. yippee skippee
This guy is in my front yard. There's another one with pink flowers, but I think the pack rats got into it this winter and ate the roots.

Cactus and thistles are pioneer plants with a job of allowing soil to be built up and protecting other plants so they can establish themselves in marginal areas. Without them all vegetation would be stomped out or consumed. Sometime it takes climate change to allow other plants to develop enough to crowd out the thorns and needle producers. So take a lesson from nature, quit stomping around on your carpet and let it grow.

About 30 years ago I worked building an addition to a sewage treatment plant in Chattanooga. You WILL leave your boots outside after a good rain. I hate to think what "bugs" I brought into the house with the mud on my pants legs. My wife says that's why our daughter has always been so healthy, she was exposed to everything at an early age.

ruined this guys day ... paramedics look like they want to trade their blue rubber gloves in
I just ate chilli with beans.... At least I won't step on them!
Yikes! There ain't a golf ball alive that deserves that much credit. Even the paramedics don't want to help that idiot.
Shirts & pants you can just cut off and throw away, but those damn cholla's in the skin burn for weeks and then some. For such a beautifull plant they sure do cause a lot of grief for anything warm blooded and with fur. I think they jump off the plant due to electromagnetic energy, or just down right sadistic intentions.
God had fun with that one, no doubt...

Yikes!! The jumpers got him good!!! Dumb ass!! I learned right away--do NOT chase golf balls into the desert; otherwise you risk this very thing here, or risk running into rattlesnakes, scorpions, javalinas, etc... 😐

Warm....over 20 degrees C (about 70 F) on March 15. Two of our party acually got a slight sunburn after walking around that afternoon.
The palm tree pictures were apparently too large to upload.....:-(
