He was the first big local football hero I heard about when I moved to Austin right out of college. Was his senior year at Westlake HS. Which soon also produced Chris Mihm in basketball and then Nick Foles shortly thereafter (about the same time that Baker Mayfield was at Lake Travis- I think he and Foles were buddies/rivals in high school).

Brees grew up and lived about a mile from here- decidedly not where he??d naturally matriculate to Westlake HS. By geography he??d have ended up where my daughters now attend school (not known in any way for its football program) and we??d probably never have heard of him.
