My granny used to tell us kids not to go outside in the dark, "There's things out there what might harm you", she would say.

Granny was spot on.

I like spiders myself, I never kill them unless they bite me. They tend to get pretty large around my house for that reason... I have liked them all my life for that matter. When I was a kid, they would often come into the living room and watch TV with us.

Wish I had a Giant Huntsman spider as a pet 🙂

I met a client on his farm at sunup a few weeks ago to show him all his corners.?ÿ?ÿHe brought along his 35mm DSLR to snap pic of the pins at their locations.

The sun had just broke the horizon and the weeds along the edge of his alfalfa field were thick with the webs of what I call "garden spiders".?ÿ The sunlight danced in the dew on their webs.?ÿ Most of the critters were 3" or larger.?ÿ There were hundreds of them.?ÿ I think he took more pics of the spiders than he did the corners.

I'm pretty adept at one-handed fly catching. I don't like spiders. And I don't like flies. But, I dislike the flies, more than I dislike the spiders. There are a couple of spiders in the house. We catch and feed the flies, to the spiders. It's anatomy, botany, and recycling, sadism, and competition, all in one. 😕 😯 😳 😛 )

@paden-cash

we used to call those "banana spiders" as a kid on the farm .?ÿ Not sure if that was because of the color or if they arrived via banana shipments.

I've seen some beautiful "golden silk orb-weaver" spiders here in SWFL that were nearly as big as my hand.?ÿ

... and electron-free television. If you can catch a wasp, toss one into the web. Fascinating to watch how careful the spiders are when they wrap up the dangerous prey.

I have never liked spiders - Mom woke up in the middle of the night once with one in her ear and the ensuing fuss left a poor impression on me. It's the great big ones that have kept me from moving to Costa Rica...

That is a the exact reason I shake out my boots every time before putting them on.?ÿ

Years ago I was working on the road and living out of cheap hotel rooms.?ÿ I woke up one morning and slipped into my boots and got spider bit just above the sock line.?ÿ I don't know what kind it was because what few pieces of him that were left after I mashed him didn't look like much...but he was small and brown.?ÿ I suspect it was a fiddleback.

That bite swole up and festered for six months.?ÿ I didn't think it would ever heal.?ÿ I still have a half-dollar size scar there.

Women and spiders are fun to watch when they interact (briefly).?ÿ If the woman is your wife I suggest you keep the laughter down to a minimum...
