Guys here ya go.. Help me out. I am running AutoCad R14. I have done a small topo, I have created my TIN, hooked up all breaklines, and built a surface. I am trying to write the TIN and Contours to the DWG, so I can start trimming them and cleaning up the Drawing. It will not let me write the contours to the DWG, it says cannot create a Temporary File.. If you guys have any answers or may could be of help, I would love to hear the options I have... thanks men
Just trying to understand here....We run 14 as well.
You say: "I am trying to write the TIN and Contours to the DWG, so I can start trimming them and cleaning up the Drawing. It will not let me write the contours to the DWG, it says cannot create a Temporary File.."
What is the "it"??
Our contouring program creates a .DXF file, which we then import into the .DWG.
So I assume you are doing something altogether differmints...
When we go through the steps in the topo menu, we get to the write surface to dwg. After we click write contours to dwg. a window pops up and says "unable to create temp file data path c/dwg/job.
We took the following steps when we started this topo.
1) selected topo points
2) creates tin file
3) created a new surface
4) connected break lines
5) attempted to write the surface to the drawing.
C&G writes the tin file to the drawing but not the contours. Thanks for your help.
C&G!
C&G ! Now there is a key factoid.
C&G for DOS or for Windows? And of what vintage? Intellicad?
Just shooting from the hip, but my guess is that the contours are an object that your c.1998 ACAD software doesn't recognize. Maybe if you explode them to polylines, or something, before exporting to ACAD things might work better.
Back in the day there was an object enabler you could load off the Autodesk website, but I bet that isn't up anymore.
C&G Survey for AutoCad R14. Windows.
Sorry I can't help - we don't use C&G.... Luck!!
(The only witless thing I can think of is that your disk is full and that is why the temporary file cannot be created).
If -
"unable to create temp file data path c/dwg/job"
is a direct copy of the text that appears in the error message, you may want to find where in your program you designate the path and change it to "c:dwgjob"
I think the direction of the slashes matter.
Also, make sure that the directory exists in order to write to it.
Just a guess and no money back guarantee on this idea.
Autocad has a nasty tendency to create a lot of temp files, and leave them hanging around. Too many, and you can start having problems, even if there's still lots of disk space left.
You might want to try deleting as much as you can from your temp folder. You can get to the temp folder by opening Windows Explorer and typing
%temp%
as the location. It's typically in your user's AppData or ApplicationData folder.
Check Your Permissions
It may be trying to overwrite an earlier file with the same name. As Windows has improved (their words not mine) it takes admin authority to do things now that there was no problem with years ago.

My first thought is you are exceeding the original memory requirements of acad -
Got a file bigger than it can deal with? Acad 14 was back there. The newer versions are memory hogs.
Older programs only dealt with a limited amount of memory (won't use your ram beyond a low limit and only set enough aside to do basic stuff) Not sure though.
Not enough room in your temp. dir.?
Try running an AUDIT or RECOVER the drawing.
Also, I remember clicking the file to open it, but it was still on the floppy (it's been a while) that disk was too small to save to, make sure your file is on the hard drive.
Thanks for all your help fellows. I think I got it this morning. It was trying to save the temp file to a directory that didn't exist. Thanks for all your help. This Surveyor Connect is too good of a tool.. Thanks again guys.
