I just received an "invoice" from a company named "Secured Document Services" in Washington, DC, official looking envelope and all, invoicing me for $86.00 for...
wait for it....
a copy of my deed on a house I recently purchased....
It states the $86.00 is due by August 3.....
The fine print at the bottom states I MAY be able to secure a copy from my local recorders office, but restrictions may apply.
I'd forward that to the FBI, sounds like mail fraud to me.
Found this on google...

This scam has been going on for a while, but this is new twist. If it's being presented as an invoice (i.e. services are already rendered, now you have to pay) rather than a solicitation for their service, then I think they are crossing the legal boundary there into fraud.
What a bargain. That's only $1 more than the recommended cost of a survey on the government form posted a day or two back.

That's what I was thinking. Someone finally charges a decent fee for land records research and the lowballers jump all over them 😛
Obama's right. You cannot get clar title without that government help.
$43.00
[sarcasm]i'll get you a copy of your deed for $43.00[/sarcasm]

$43.00

I would scan it for free using my iphone.

Yeah, but how much would you charge to provide a copy, Paul?
