This falls in the category of fantasy paint colors, but I've been shopping for a used motorcycle and have been unpleasantly surprised by all the tacky paint colors that the market has apparently encouraged the manufacturers to slap on their machines for quick sale. So, I've been entertaining the idea of getting a bike that needs repainting anyway and painting it the color that it should have had in the first place.

This would probably be one of the Honda or Kawasaki V-twins, not a machine like a BMW that pretty much requires a factory paint color as a matter of taste.

Right now I'm leaning toward something in the neighborhood of 1956 Ford Meadowmist Green and 1957 Chevy Surf Green. Neither is exactly right, but both are close. For some reason, there was a run of interesting car colors in the 1950's that has since mostly petered out into the few, dull choices avaiable today. Any other suggestions for a turquoise/aqua green to consider that was used on a production car or truck, American or foreign?

For the record, this is what the Ford color looks like:

Ford Meadowmist Green

The Chevy color is nearly identical and familiar from that same period.

For the record, when I saw the title of your thread, I thought you were talking about some mythical and rare Chenin Blanc.
There's an under appreciated little gem from the past.
Probably not that far past, though.

Seriously, which one of those little boys in the back seat is you?

You don't really need to paint it at all!

That would have to be the Ernest & Julio Gallo special California blend you have in mind.

Usage of that particular color probably peaked around maybe 1959 and then just faded away (pun intended). In my mind, it's shorthand for the late 1950's and early 60's.

I guess those casino gigs didn't work out for Mr. Nugent after all.

I don't mean to stray too far over the line

...but I believe I did read something recently regarding that gentleman and certain Native Americans:-)

I've always liked the 1928 Wild Heerbrugg Green.

Fender Guitars would mimic 50's U S car colors in the 60s.

Yes, the Foam Green isn't bad. Apparently, it's 1956 Buick Foam Green.

White gas tank with greenish fenders and cover plates would be a nice look.

Yes those 50s cars always looked good because of the two tone paint,
I had an uncle who had bought a two tone desoto in the mid 50s that had a two tone (coral pink & white) finish.
I think it was a mid life crisis thing . My father's mid life crisis car was a studebaker golden hawk that he bought for the family car.

I too am a fan of the post-war, pre 60s auto colors. To me, your eyes are the USB port to the soul. And colors are music for the eyes.

If I remember correctly, Detroit started using acrylic lacquers after 1960. I don't know what they used prior to 1960, but the classic colors of the '50s gave way to the metallic paints. I still remember my father's green 1950 Studebaker...a green similar to your photo of the Ford Sedan.

I think you had mentioned once you were fond of the 'wings sans the façade. I took the liberty to look one up for sale that's close by in San Antone:

The bird-crap yellow would DEFINITELY need altered...

Just take your check book and have the Ms. drop you off. Call your insurance agent with a VIN while you're standing in the seller's driveway. It's easy. Done it way too many times...;-)

Oh... and here's a suggestion for your next tat!

Ratbike Milo

I believe that's a photo of Ratbike Milo. Although I didn't know him, he was a year or two behind me in high school, and has ridden that bike all over the country.

Ratbike Milo

That's him.

Here's a link to his website.

He hasn't posted for a while. Hope he's well.

He did mention on his site that he washed his bike once and it took 45 minutes to start it afterwards. He swore he'd never wash it again. I think he's stuck by his guns.

Kent, Is That You InThe Back Seat ?

Sure looks like a family photo.

My brother had a green 55 Ford. It was not tutone, at least originally. Eventually the top became cement dust gray.

That Ford color lasted a few years longer overseas. My dad bought my sister a green Anglia. We ran it from '66 to '69. It was a hoot to drive flat out. It never went fast enough to get you a ticket.

Don, you can't see Kent in the picture, he is in the front passenger seat leaning over calibrating the tachometer. 🙂

I'm sure that's not Kent

Look at the cars in the background. It's a fairly new pic and it's been a century or more since Kent was that young. 🙂

That is a very clean GL, but I'd rather not pay $6500 (as is asked for that, if I recall) for a cafe racer. I'll leave it and the tats for the hipsters.

I've seen a 1930's-vintage Excelsior with that paint scheme, but the green was greener and it had the big red Excelsior "X" on the sides of the tank.
