The money goes to the Township Board of Trustees as it was purchased by the Township many years ago and the replacement truck was purchased with Township funds and a grant. The mill levee will probably hold steady so nothing there for me or anyone else, really.
BTW, I love the watermelon idea. Perhaps a bumblebee-striped tank would work similarly.
Here's one without an engine or tranny sitting in a field that has an asking price of 3K.

Asking is one thing, getting is another.;-)

no kidding...the grass looks tall around that one.
@Seb Any idea what year those Dodge milk trucks are? They look like 55-57 to me.
I was thinking the images somehow got reversed 'cause the steering wheels are on the wrong side...
Gotta be about $35,000 sitting there.....
For anyone interested, the Stark, KS Fire Truck is actually equipped with a standard transmission (evident from the photos). The auction site contacted me with some errata concerning the ad and clarified this.
I also noticed it is sporting a Delco style alternator. Unless I'm mistaken, that's a good indication it has been converted to a 12Vdc system. But the auction rep had no idea when I asked him.
carry on

No idea sorry. Interestingly enough, even though they are white, they do have the Tasmania Fire Service logo on them and they were used as fire trucks.
I was just casually dreaming of having one of the red ones restored and using it as a survey vehicle. Very impractical of course and not going to happen but nice to think about.
I went hunting further and found another photo from that day.

I don't see a
Sireeeeeen.
That could be a deal breaker.
That must be why there is an odd spot on the left front fender with several holes. Must have moved it to the new truck.

I've got an old military surplus hand crank siren...it's way cool. But they won't let me take it to football games anymore.
Removing the siren is probably a new Homeland Security requirement. If they sold someone the truck with the siren they'd have to kill them...:pinch:
I was thinking that old truck might make a pretty fancy survey wagon, but I got to reconsidering.
If I had an old truck like that it could make my fishing excursions a little more comfortable:
The bids jumped a bunch a week ago up to $1300 but haven't moved since. Discovered tonight that the stripe on the driver's door and along the side of the bed sure do light up nicely in the dark when hit with car lights.
No, I wan't out carousing. I was on my way home from chairing the monthly Rural Water District board meeting and had chosen a path that took me past the field that was supposed to be planted to soybeans before dark. Maybe before dark..............tomorrow.

Kinda quieted down..that's a sign the number of bidders has leveled off. The next activity comes right before the bidding closes. Wonder who is going to get to put it in their front yard and plant marigolds in the bed?
Looks like Paden is right. No action. Maybe I should bump it to $1325. I have no need for it, so I guess I would have to donate it to some worthy cause if I happened to get it on a single bid. Maybe the Ledbetter Hall of Fame.
A Jerry Clower classic tale:.........................................................
This story I am about to tell ye, the inspiration comes to me from the Lieutenant Governor of the great state of Georgia, Mr. Zell Miller! ThatÛªs right!
I growÛªd up at Route 4, Liberty, Mississippi. (Miss-sip-peh) The country seat town was a small town: Volunteer fire department. It was in the middle of the summer, big drought, no water, everybody knew if a building caught on fire (f-ah-re) it Û÷as gone. Cause there wasnÛªt no water, they just couldnÛªt draw it up fast enough to put out no fire.
One Saturday eveninÛª a building caught on fire.
Commenced to burninÛª.
The crowd gathered with their arms folded. SquallinÛª. Watching the building burn, cause there ainÛªt no water. Bout that time here come Uncle Vercy Ledbetter and Aunt (ainÛªt) Pet in their olÛª truck. Had all of the younginÛªs with Û÷um: Ardel, Burnel, Raynel, W.L. (dub-yell), Lanel, Odell, Eudel, Marcel, Claude, Newgene, and Clovis. They Û÷s all hanginÛª on that olÛª truck. Waaagh!
Everybody heard Û÷um cominÛª, the fenders rattlinÛª: [sounds of flopping fender: blopgablopgablopgablopgablopga]! Here they come!
AnÛª the crowd parted cause they Û÷as cominÛª pretty fast. AnÛª they run right up on the sidewalk, an right up in the middle of the fire. Into the fire! AnÛª they jumped off and took off their overhaul jumpers an went to floppinÛª and stompinÛª the fire: whalm!
PuttinÛª it out.
Aunt Pet Ledbetter had her bonnet, tellin Û÷um ÛÏÛ÷ho stomp over here, (he-y-ah) get (geet) it out!Û whomp whomp!
And they stomped the fire out! They put it slap out!
The folks cheered, ÛÏHaaawg! The LedbetterÛªs, theyÛªre heroes! (h-E-rows) They put out the fire.Û
They passed a hat, took up a collection, took up 31 dollars. Give the money to Uncle Vercy, and said ÛÏSir, we love you, you are a hero.Û Said, ÛÏTell us, what are you going to buy with the 31 dollars?Û
He said ÛÏThe first thing IÛªm gonna do is get the brakes fixed on that truck!Û

Oh....you really don't want to do that....I kinda like the bid right where it's at....B-)
Don't look at me. I'm sitting on the sidelines just watching the game. Honest.
Dang thing jumped to $1450 today.

I saw that. And I've already located an original kro'-med tipped steel sun visor for a '53. I hope I can keep the guy on the line until I see who the lucky bidder is..
